This is our story.

!
Good day,
My name is Tom and I'm the Principal here at Futuraskolan International Lidingö.
I am the proud pappa of Cassandra and Julius (ages 15 and 17) and live with
them and Lucky and Jimbo, 2 very nice cats. During my free time I like to go
running. I am a scuba diving instructor so I love to dive, I'm a pretty bad surfer
but I love to surf and I am a huge Seattle sports fan.
My role in the school is to develop the various groups in the community (parents,
students and teachers) so that we together can provide a vibrant and stimulating
environment where students can achieve their goals in relation to the Swedish
National Curriculum. Our aim is to provide a safe and welcoming learning
environment where students are valued and challenged. My ultimate aim is for
all the students in the school to leave grade 9 with a reason to feel proud of
themselves.
My motivation mainly comes from my schooling many years ago. For a few of my
teenage years, school and I did not agree with each other. I had family and
personal events outside of school that were very impactful to me and made me
question my personal value. Luckily, I had a few adults who never gave up on
me, who were firm yet gentle in their handling of me, and who instilled in me the
belief that I could go wherever my wishes took me as long as I was willing to
take the steps to get there. This inspired me to go into teaching. I will never
forget when, as a student in teachers college, I was assigned an inner city school
group in America to work with. Many of these students were from disadvantaged
homes and one thing that I saw was a key component of their success was how
much I proved to them that I believed in them. I left this teaching assignment
with a clear belief that I still hold to this day, that sometimes the only thing a
person needs to start on the road to success is for someone to believe in them.
I will be employing this philosophy every day in the school. By looking for
student success, leading the staff by introducing them to new learning theories
and models of instruction and holding parent workshops about topics as varied
as gaming addiction, safe internet behavior and drug and alcohol use amongst
the students of Lidingö. My aim is to develop the community so that we are
working together towards a common goal. This goal is student growth through
academic achievement.
You can often find me in front of the school in the mornings greeting the
students as they arrive, in my office or a classroom during the day, or by mail or
phone outside of normal working hours.
We have a very cool school with an amazing teaching staff and a dynamic and
supportive parents group.
We encourage you to come have a look around, try our lunch in the lunchroom,
and see our spectacular teachers and students at work.
Have a fantastic day and I look forward to meeting you:)
Sincerely,
Tom
material. Här lämnar man också in sina skriftliga arbeten direkt.
Nu ser jag mycket fram emot att träffa alla elever och låta höstterminen börja!

My name is Matleena Boström and I'm teaching science to 6th and 7th graders,
mentoring 6A and having an honor of becoming a First Position teacher here at
Futuraskolan International Lidingö. I moved from Finland to Sweden two years
ago. During my free time I compete in orienteering and run marathons for fun.
My first love and my husband, Mårten, does the same but takes it more seriously
:) After living in three different continents I can say our passion is to travel
around the world.
My role in the school is to lead academic planning to our amazing year 6 and 7
teachers. My personal aim is to develop individualized and digitalized learning
environments where every student is challenged at their own level.
My goal is to raise creative, progressive and responsible students, who are
enjoying meaningful learning. I have always wanted to become a teacher and
willing to inspire, motivate and courage students and help them to give their very
best.
My teaching methods might sometimes be really progressive, but all I implement
in a classroom is based on research. It’s something I learned during the 7 years
in University :) I am on my way to find out how to coach the students to face the
future and to be successful in their lives.
Best Regards,
Matleena Boström

My name's Alison. I'm mamma to four-year-old Finn and I have lots of interests,
although in particular I'm a keen sailor and have spent a lot of time on boats.
My role in school is as year 8 and 9 science teacher and mentor to 9A. Back in
the UK I particularly enjoyed working with second language students and it's
great to be able to work with the enthusiastic, talented and diverse learning
community here at Futuraskolan International Lidingö.
I'm offering a forensics course for student choice. My interest here is in bringing
an understanding of how cutting-edge science techniques can be used to solve
criminal investigations and to show the value of science in real life issues,
developing a knowledge of genetics, as well as blood analysis, fibers and other
areas.
I look forward this year to supporting students' academic success, but most
importantly their confidence and development as lifelong learners, through
questioning and working together to encourage curiosity.

!
Hello, my name is Grant Campbell and I am teaching mathematics in years 8 and
9.
I am from a small city in beautiful western Canada and am a big hockey fan, of
course. I grew up representing my city in ice hockey, amongst other sports, and
even managed to win a provincial championship along the way. I love to travel
and have had the opportunity to spend extended periods in both Germany and
Ireland. I am also the proud father of a wonderful 14 year old daughter.
Mathematics is a subject which involves the acquisition, development, and
mastery of a wide range of skills and concepts which coupled with creativity,
logic, and instinct, are applied to solving a great variety of problems in the world
around us. Fascinating! The goal of the course is to lay a foundation of
knowledge, experience, and confidence to provide students with a competitive
edge entering the gymnasium system and beyond. Homework is assigned on a
weekly basis to maintain and polish skills, as well as to develop problem solving
skills in a clear and concise manner. Each unit is normally assessed at both E and
C-A levels. The dates for these will be on Schoolsoft.
This year I shall be involved in offering educational challenges using the
Minecraft Education platform, during Enrichment lessons. Different challenges
may involve research, planning, design, and construction. This is a new offering
from the developers of Minecraft and promises to provide a stimulating
environment to challenge and explore ones creative energies.

My name is Gaël Alexandra Rosén and I have been living on islands almost my
whole life. From Gotland I moved to Tahiti and today I live on Lidingö .
I have studied economy but the real me loves humanities studies, languages,
history, art etc.… Today I see myself as a world citizen. When I met Luca, my
husband I moved to Rome. My 12 years in Italy brought me the passion for food,
people, AS Roma and the most important thing in my life, my 3 children Romeo
Aurelio and Ottavia.
Today I see myself as a world citizen. I am working at Futuraskolan International
Lidingö as the school administrator and French teacher. It is a perfect
combination and it is all about COMMUNICATING, SHARING and HELPING. To
administrate is about building relationships with student, parents and educators
and every day is a challenge.
Languages connect people. Teaching French is telling stories, sharing my
experiences and being someone the students can talk to. I like the idea of
bringing values into the class, being involved in shaping the future and opening
new horizons for the students. Teaching French is also about setting goals and
making my students work hard. The rewards of teaching are limitless, but the
best is when I get to celebrate my student’s achievements together with them.
I look forward meeting all of you.

Kelton is the Irish name that was given to me from my parents to give me a
unique identity, to start off my life in a meaningful way. I am a biker, skier,
reader, philosophy leader and at times a sympathetic listener. My wife and two
cats mean the world to me, and in my mind that is the best place to be.
What motivates me is the idea that people have to think about how they deal
with others with love, compassion, respect, and empathy. This must be our new
reality. We have to come back to the idea of a family.
English is lesson that I preach to all the students from eight to nine that are in
my care, school soft is the system that I put all of my work that I must share to
all of the parents, all of my students, and my colleagues to prepare.
As you can see in my words, poetry is dear to my heart and I would like to
impart a little of my wisdom to the students to embark on a mission of selfawareness, self-confidence, mental strength, individuality with a spark, so when
they are older they will likely not fall apart.
Spoken word is the name of my student choice to give them a unique voice with
music in the background to give their poetry a unique texture for their timely
lecture.
My idea of a good teacher is a self-esteem preacher, one that builds up a student
so that they can stand on their own two feet, when times get rough they have a
concrete layer of personal integrity and decency.
That is me.

My name is Christofer Leydner and I am the SO teacher for grades 8 and 9 at
Futuraskolan International Lidingö. I am a father of two kids - Laura and Ludvig
(ages 5 and 2). My passion is sports in general, Hammarby in particular, and I
have recently taken up golf. I love to travel and experience the world, especially
in "my second home" - the USA.
Becoming a teacher is something that grows on you as it is not the first
profession that comes to mind when you are in school as a student. My
motivation for teaching started when I began to understand the importance of
knowledge, especially in the growing globalized world we all live in. I knew that
teaching younger generations and preparing them for the future was something
that I wanted to do. To be a good role model and inspire students is what is
rewarding for me and to see and follow student progression is what drives me.
My role as a teacher is to motivate students to develop their understanding of
the world through knowledge about history, geography, religion, and civics. My
goal is to inspire and teach the future generations about the importance of this
knowledge and how they can use it to be a global citizen. This importance of
understanding one's place in a globalized world today and the international
relation abilities needed is what inspired me to select the Model United Nations
as a student choice.
War and peace, pollution, trade and economics, cooperation and understanding
for our common earth are some of the many challenges that we face today.
Through reading, researching and practice we, the students who chooses to
follow me during this interesting choice of Model UN, will experience how to
debate, cooperate, solve conflicts and problems in the world, and get a broader
understanding of how we try to come together as a unit in this world. We will
prepare ourselves to compete against other international schools to show our
skills, our abilities, and our new knowledge. I am looking forward to joining and
guiding you through this global journey.

Dear all,
My name is Dea Dizdar and I’m teaching Social Studies here at Futuraskolan
International Lidingö for year 6-7. When I’m not at school teaching I like to
spend my free time in the gym running and lifting weights, reading and writing
reviews about current things that are happening around the world, and watching
a lot of documentaries. However the best thing I know is to spend time with my
fiancé Dennis my family and friends. My favorite food is stuffed cabbage,
probably because I was born in former Yugoslavia, what is now known as Bosnia,
where the dish is a traditional one. I came to Sweden as a refugee in 1993 and
since then I’ve lived in Stockholm.
Beyond teaching Social Studies I’m leading the student choice course Model UN
for year 6-7. With this course I want to provide knowledge about different parts
of the world, what problems there are and what the kind of solutions
organizations and politicians have for them. Through the Model UN-course, I
want to bring more attention to situations that currently exist in communities
around the world and of course also the work that is ongoing for an
improvement. With this course I hope to help new citizens of the world - our
students, to become a part of the solutions to future problems our world will
have.
My motivation mainly comes from being a refugee and from spending my
summers in Bosnia where a lot of things work differently compared to Sweden.
By visiting a different country and culture my interest for politics and peace
became greater.
In my classes I’m using google classroom for all assignments and Schoolsoft for
reporting the results.
I look forward meeting you!
Best, Dea

My name is Leonard Le Blanc,
I have lived in Sweden since the 1990s and have been teaching math and
science for the past twenty years in a number of Stockholm schools. This year I
am teaching grade six and seven math. In my spare time I enjoy jogging,
kayaking, and reading history.
In grade six and seven math the students will have a weekly homework
assignment consisting of a problem set. During a typical class I will introduce a
concept and demonstrate it with a series of examples, asking questions all the
while to stimulate interest and engagement. Before assigning in-class exercises
on the concept, I test understanding by giving the students a couple of “test”
questions. When students have completed the “test” questions they are ready to
begin the exercises. Those students who have difficulty with the “test“ questions
get further instruction and an opportunity to show understanding before
beginning exercises. Students may work with a partner.
Writing clear, step-by-step solutions is something I stress. In other words “klar
och tydlig redovisning.” The answer is only a part of the solution. The method is
often more important than the final answer.
It is important that students ask for help as soon as they begin to fall behind in
their understanding. By listening well in class, working diligently on the practice
exercises, reviewing regularly and preparing for tests, all students will succeed in
their math studies.
My enrichment topic is future cities. Students will explore what a city needs in
order to be a good city. They can do research on the role of housing,
transportation, policing, wastes, energy, green areas, recreation and democracy.
To illustrate their ideas students can use posters or a Minecraft platform to build
their city. Through this project students will gain perspective and knowledge
about the structure and possibilities of the city they live in and will be in a better
position in later years to exercise influence over its future.
Leonard
!
Hello there!
I'm Dan and I teach English and Home Economics (hem- och
konsumentkunskap) here at Futuuraskolan International Lidingö. When I'm not
busy at Futura, you might see me around Stockholm biking, dancing, and feeding
the bunnies at Karlbergs Slott. My mantra is that learning is a life-long goal that
requires persistence and dedication.
Each student at International Lidingö is not only developing knowledge, skills,
and understanding, but is also building character and learning social
responsibility. In HKK, we will learn knowledge, skills, and reasoning that will
help us develop into young adults. In English, we will improve our
communication skills and our ability to critically analyze, develop arguments, and
appreciate literature. My ambition is for our students to be able experience how
different worldviews add color and depth to life.
To illustrate this point, after about 20 years of living in the United States, my
mother added the phrase 'or what?' to her vocabulary and proceeded to use it
with every other question. She was absolutely proud to use it. The phrase 'or
what' tends to be used in slang and is slightly aggressive, as if challenging the
other person to disagree or to at least offer an alternative. Thus it lends some
unintended meanings to even the most innocent of questions.
What mom says: Can you put the groceries in the bag, or what?
My worldview: Can you please help me put the groceries in the bag?
Other adults' worldview: Get off your lazy bottom and do your job of putting the
groceries in the bag for me, or are you incapable of even doing that?
Agitated (and slightly paranoid) adults' worldview: How can she treat her
children like that? Should we call the police for child abuse?
Teen and slang worldview: What's going on? Did something happen?
Many bewildered and slightly offended people later, we're able to convince my
mom of the dangers of using words she doesn't fully understand.
Now, no description of an English language geek (yours truly) is complete
without a vocabulary lesson. I've always adored the concept of a renaissance
man/woman - a 'polymath'. It comes from Greek words polu (much) and
manthanein (to learn). A polymath is a person who has profound, even expert,
knowledge of many areas and combines them in an interdisciplinary approach to
life. We most often use this term when describing the great thinkers of the
Renaissance. This is what I aspire to be - a person who learns as much as
possible in order to help others. This is type of person Futura students are
capable of becoming.
Come for a visit, add your favorite quote to the board, or grab a cushion and a
good book. See you soon at Futuraskolan International Lidingö!

Hello, my name is Lisa.
I am the art and textiles teacher at Futura International Lidingö. I started
teaching here in January and couldn’t be happier or more excited about the year
ahead.
After studying art and design in Manchester, UK, then having the pleasure of
training to teach, I travelled, then wanted to experience living somewhere else
and couldn’t be happier here in Sweden. During my spare time I love to paint,
explore the city, (taking photographs), visit the art galleries and go to the
cinema. Being so close to the water in Stockholm is a really nice novelty to me,
the only water in Manchester is rain!
My motivations for wanting to teach art and textiles are the experiences and
ideas I can share with students in creating and discussing arts and crafts,
encouraging students to grow in confidence when creating artworks. I do this
because of my love of researching art history, both old/new techniques and then
sharing this knowledge.
I will be creating experiences to encourage growth and the learning of new
techniques to help students communicate experiences and express their own
visual language. Artwork will be displayed on the school walls and an exhibition
at the end of the year will be an exciting opportunity for everyone to see what
has been created.
Hope to see you there!
Kind regards,
Lisa Handley

Hello, my name is Mimmi and I’m the Swedish teacher for grades 6 and 7.
This will be my first semester teaching here at Futura International and I´m
really excited. I have been working as a teacher since 2012 and I love it! Before
joining Futura I was on maternity leave for a year, taking care of my daughter.
I really enjoy working as a teacher since every day is different. You get to not
only spend time with amazing kids but also educate them in your favorite
subject.
As student choice I will teach Drama, a subject that is very close to my heart.
After attending drama school and acting in various amateur theater companies
as a youth, I understood that I love standing on a stage. I really hope that I am
able to channel my passion for Drama with the students and encourage them to
broaden their minds and perform in front of an audience.
All the information about lesson planning, homework assignments and other info
will be provided in Schoolsoft and Google Classroom.
I look forward to meeting all of you!
Mimmi
Hej!
Fredrik
Hi there...
My name is Lars Wiggh and I’m currently working as wood shop teacher at
Lidingö International.
I live in the countryside, constantly working with different projects, woodcraft,
blacksmithing, building houses and playing music.... it just never stops does
it....well...
I’ve been teaching wood shop (in different schools) for decades, but I love
working metal as well, so... this fall we start a course in metal-forging. Basic
metalwork, forging, security, material knowledge and history.
I think it is important for young people to work with their hands as well as with
their minds, in order develop and gain self-confidence. The process of creation
always expands the mind and inspire new ideas and approaches, every step
alters the road to be.
I think that is the duty of our generation to see that next generation always end
up better than the previous.
Lars
Hello,
My name is Javier Herbozo, but I am also called by the nickname of "Canelita",
as I sign the art I am doing beside my work as a Spanish/Music teacher. I am the
father of 3 kids with three different wonderful women and we are a big and nice
family. Samuel 18, Bruno 13 and Nike, my queen, 6. I am a Peruvian living in
Sweden since 1987.
I have been working as a freelancing Illustrator doing different kinds of jobs at
first and later at the Museum of Natural History as a Scientific Illustrator but also
working as a musician with many recordings over these years. I enjoy playing
with many different bands on different music styles from Flamenco, "Folkmusik",
Cuban music and Jazz besides many other styles.
I am putting the importance of teaching on my social competence, on my skills
to encounter people and from there, go to the teaching: knowing the person,
understanding the person for a better contact with one and each is for me the
key of learning. In that way I can see every student, even those who got on the
back of those on the front, those who you don´t notice and they are many. I am
involved on the diagnose ADD (getting my illustrated book out very soon, this
year) so that is also an area of interest for me.
Teaching is a part of life. That’s why I love teaching. As a parent you teach the
best you can. Not always right but you learn.
Teaching is like playing music: you must listen to the others, you have to put
your tunes right, your sounds can not silence the other players (students), your
sounds should contribute to the piece, and been silence is, many times, the best
way to choose the right time to put your next sounds right.
So, listening and learning at the same time how to teach is the right way for me.
Being a friend for the soul connection and a master to just leading those who you
teach is also, for me, the way. Been just "the water leading the knowledge thru
the sea of possibilities."
Cheers.
Javier
!
Hej!
Mina
kontaktuppgifter finns på schoolsoft.
