Word around the School is:
Congratulations to Mr. Briggs and his 8th Grade 1st Period Class for winning the Achieve3000 school
wide contest Read to Succeed! It’s proven that the more Achieve3000 lessons the students complete,
the greater their reading gains. If your child attends Mr. Briggs’s class make sure to congratulate
them on their literacy accomplishment.
Galileo Club News:
Battle of the Books
6th Grade Battle of the Books has begun with Ms. Cary and Ms. Kitazono. They meet during 6th Grade
Lunch on Mondays and Wednesdays in rooms 108 or 102. Please see either Ms. Cary or Ms. Kitazono
for further details.
Robotics Club
Robotics Club is available to all students at all grade levels! They meet Tuesdays after school from
3:50pm to 5pm in room 9. Please see Mr. A-E for any questions. Robotics begins again January 24,
2017.
Books and Games Club
Like playing video games? Reading books? Both? Check out our Books and Games Club! Meetings are
Wednesdays after school from 3:50pm-5pm. All grades are welcome, please see Mr. A-E in room 9 for
further information.

Dance Club
Are you known for busting a mad move? Is the Dab so yesterday? Shimmy your way on up to Ms.
Hedemark’s room (217) for Dance Club! Dance club begins January 18, 2017 at 4:00pm and will go
until 5:00pm.
MMA
Mixed Martial Arts is held daily from 3:55pm to 4:50pm. Contact Wayman West for your chance to join. MMA
is great physical work and a fantastic way to meet new friends.

What’s Happening??
Ronald McDonald Care Mobile
The Ronald McDonald Care Mobile offers physicals, vaccinations, medical and dental care to preschoolers and
children through the age of 21. There is no charge for medical and dental exam services for children who have
Medicaid, CHP+, or uninsured. We do take Medicaid, CHP+ and a sliding scale application for those without

insurance for extended dental care. The Ronald McDonald staff are available to assist in the registration.

Come see our Winter Band concert February 28th presented by Mr. Jacobson. The concert will run from
6:30pm to 8:00pm. Bring the family and enjoy the show.

arrive to sign your student out we will call them to the office.)

If you need to pick up your child early at the end of the day, please do
so before 3:25; we will not call students down to the office between 3:25 and
3:40.

Dear Parents/Guardians,
Your school is participating as a comparison school in research associated with the Verizon Innovative
Learning Schools (VILS) initiative. As part of this initiative, the Verizon Foundation has contracted with
Westat, an independent research company, to conduct a study of the program’s impact on teachers and
students. A primary goal of this study is to measure the effect of providing middle school students with digital
technology and 24/7 Internet access. The study will compare schools that are and are not participating in the
initiative. The study findings will provide insights for districts and schools considering similar initiatives. As part
of this study your child will be given a short survey about his/her use of learning technologies and interest in
academic subjects. Westat will also be provided information about your child(ren)’s attendance, disciplinary
actions, end of year grades, and scores on standardized tests.
Your child(ren) is (are) not required to participate in this study. These activities are completely voluntary and
he/she may stop at any time. No individual information about your child, or about your child’s classroom or
school will be reported or shared. All information will be kept confidential and your child(ren)’s participation will
not affect your child(ren)’s grades.
