As part of this initiative, the Verizon Foundation has contracted with Westat, an independent research company, to conduct a study of the program’s impact on teachers and students. A primary goal of this study is to measure the effect of providing middle school students with digital technology and 24/7 Internet access. The study will compare schools that are and are not participating in the initiative. The study findings will provide insights for districts and schools considering similar initiatives. As part of this study your child will be given a short survey about his/her use of learning technologies and interest in academic subjects. Westat will also be provided information about your child(ren)’s attendance, disciplinary actions, end of year grades, and scores on standardized tests. Your child(ren) is (are) not required to participate in this study. These activities are completely voluntary and he/she may stop at any time. No individual information about your child, or about your child’s classroom or school will be reported or shared. All information will be kept confidential and your child(ren)’s participation will not affect your child(ren)’s grades. Please open the attached word document if you chose to NOT have your child participate in this study. Please print, then sign the document and have it returned to the main office. passive consent form.docx Parents: Please view the PSA video below.
