BIOFIBER™
Strips/Discs: Absorbable Biologic Surgical Mesh
Case Overview
Patient is a 64 year old male with a one year history of shoulder pain. Prior to surgery
the patient had significant pain, elevation to 130 degrees, external rotation to 30
degrees and marked weakness. He has tried medication, injection, and physical
therapy with continued pain. His MRI demonstrates a full thickness medium size
tear of the supraspinatus extending into the infraspinatus tendon with retraction.

Ease of storage and use
At the time of surgery, the rotator cuff was noted to be thin in nature with
significant delamination. Due to the quality of the rotator cuff tissue, the decision
was made to perform a double row repair with BIOFIBER™ surgical mesh
augmentation. The patient had double loaded 2.8mm PITON™ anchors placed in
the medial row. (Figure 2) Horizontal mattress sutures were placed through the
rotator cuff and the BIOFIBER™ surgical mesh and tied. (Figure 3 and 4) These
sutures were then tensioned laterally using 3.5mm PITON™ anchors. (Figure 5)
The BIOFIBER™ surgical mesh resulted in a more secure repair, minimal increase in
operative time, and allowed for a more rapid therapy program.

Patient Follow-Up
At four months, the patient was very satisfied with the procedure. He had
marked improvement in his pain. On examination, he had 150 degrees of active
elevation, external rotation to 40 degrees, and excellent strength.
