WESTERN UNIVERSITY OF HEALTH SCIENCES College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific DO CLASS OF 2021 INSTRUCTIONS FOR COMPLETING YOUR SECONDARY APPLICATION TO THE LEBANON, OREGON CAMPUS Please read all of the instructions carefully before beginning your on-line application. Completion of the Secondary Application and receipt of all supporting documents is required prior to consideration of your application. Applications not completed within 10 days will result in delayed processing. It is your responsibility to ensure that all documents are received in a timely manner. COMP – Lebanon, OR Secondary Application You have applied to the COMP Lebanon, OR campus. If you applied to both campuses, you should submit a secondary application to the Pomona, CA campus when requested to do so. We will complete your application to both campuses and your application will receive an independent evaluation by both campuses. Completing Your Application We recommend that you review each section of the application before completing it and prepare your answers to the essay questions in a word document and copy and paste them into the application. There are 1,650 characters/spaces available for each essay question. You will be able to print each section of the application prior to submitting it; after submission you will not have access to your application. The printed application will not reflect the entire essay question answer; therefore we recommend that you keep your Word documents. If you need to edit a section after submitting it, please email the change to Enrollment Data Services at [email protected] and the change will be added to your application. Please include your legal name, login ID, and the program(s) you applied to. General Information When completing the secondary application, use the same version of the name that you used to file the AACOMAS application. Please do not use nicknames or shortened version of your legal name. Secondary Application Fee The secondary application processing fee is $65.00. At this time we are not able to offer fee waivers. The application fee must be paid by credit card at the time you submit your application. However, if you received a fee waiver from AACOMAS and want a refund of the fee, please contact Enrollment Data Services at [email protected] to request a refund of the application fee. Fee waivers will be granted only to those who are eligible for a fee waiver from AACOMAS. MCAT Test Scores We will accept MCAT scores taken between January 2013 and January 2017. However scores from the January 2017 test will delay consideration of your application which may result in not being considered for the DO2021 class. WICHE Scholarships Students living in selected states have the opportunity to apply for scholarships that may total up to 50% pf COMP’s annual tuition. The Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE) Professional Student Exchange Program (PSEP) enables students in 15 western states to enroll in selected out-of-state professional programs. Students who are approved for the scholarship for their first year of medical school may be given priority over students who apply for the scholarship in subsequent years. For details on available scholarships, participating states and application, contact your state WICHE office or visit their website at www.wiche.edu/sep. The application deadline is October 1st annually. Letters of Recommendation Only one set of letters of recommendation is necessary if you applied to both campuses. If you applied to other WesternU programs, you will need to provide separate letters of recommendation for each program. All letters of recommendation should be sent by your recommender to the Pomona, CA campus attention Enrollment Data Services Office at 309 E. Second Street, Pomona, CA 91766. Letters of recommendation given to you for posting or delivery must be signed over the seal by your recommender in order to be considered. Letters of recommendation posted to VirtualEvals or Interfolio should be designated for Western University/College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific (COMP) Pomona. Letters may also be submitted to AACOMAS. All letters of recommendation must be on university or professional letterhead with a signature. They will be posted to your Pomona and/or Lebanon campus application within 10 business days. There may also be a delay in posting to our account by VirtualEvals or Interfolio. Recommendation letters may be obtained from undergraduate, graduate, or professional school professors who instructed you in the prerequisite science coursework. We will accept a copy only if it is a part of a packet that is posted by the Pre-health Professions Advising Office on your campus to Interfolio, VirtualEvals, or AACOMAS. We recommend that you have your letters electronically submitted as this will shorten processing time. The Admissions Committee reserves the right to request additional letters of recommendation. We will not accept letters of recommendation from family members due to a conflict of interest. We also strongly prefer that your recommendations be from people who have worked with you independent of family connections and have gained a good sense of your character outside of family influences and ties. A letter of recommendation from a physician is required. A letter of recommendation from a physician, who you have worked with or observed in a clinical setting is required. A letter of recommendation from an Osteopathic Physician is preferred, however we will accept a letter from an MD. Letters from other health professions do not meet this requirement. A Committee Evaluation from the Pre-health Professions Committee is preferred The committee evaluation is required if a Pre-health professions committee exists on your campus. The committee evaluation must include at least 2 science professor evaluations. If your university does not have a Pre-Health Professions Committee that writes letters of recommendation, a letter of recommendation from a science professor who instructed you in a prerequisite science course is acceptable. You may also submit letters from other professors with a limit of 5 letters. Applicants who have not taken a class for two or more years If you have been out of school for two or more years and are unable to secure the required letters, you may request a letter of recommendation from a research professor, non-science professor, pre-health advisor, or supervisor in lieu of the required letter. The Admissions Committee reserves the right to request additional letters of recommendation. Notice to Re-applicants We will consider letters of recommendation for a second consecutive application only; you need only provide one additional letter of recommendation from a science professor. If your previous application was incomplete, you need to provide the necessary letters to complete this application.
