Supporting your child`s reading is one of the most valuable things a

PE Kit
PE lessons will take place on a Monday afternoon and the children will need to have
their PE kit in school, this is the same as Year 3; a white t.shirt, blue or black shorts
and black pumps. These should be brought in a P.E bag and they can be left in
school for the whole half term. Pupils won’t be allowed to wear their shoes in PE so
please try and ensure their full kits are in school. Thank you.
Homework
Reading books go home every night for the children to read to you, and they need to
be returned the following day (a little and often is best!). Class teachers and teaching
assistants will monitor their reading through these records and they will be stamped
during guided reading.
Literacy homework/spellings go out on a Friday and should come back to school on a
Wednesday. The weekly spellings are tested on a Wednesday. The Literacy
homework concentrates on punctuation and grammar.
Numeracy mental maths homework goes out on a Friday and should come back on
Wednesday too.
Home learning projects are related to our termly topics and are cross curricular
based. Letters will detail the activities the pupils can take part in and we encourage
pupils to use their talents and skills.
Welcome to Year 4 and the new Autumn term. We hope you all had a restful summer
holiday! We have many exciting opportunities planned for your children throughout
the year and we are sure your children will enjoy all that year four has to offer. In this
newsletter you will find information about the various topics and activities your child
will be studying or taking part in. Should you need to speak to your child’s class
teacher about any concerns you may have please speak to them at the end of the
day.
Wider Opportunities in Music
Children in Year 4 have the fantastic opportunity of having music specialists working
with them all year. MAPAS is an organisation that provides Music and Performing Arts
in Salford. This year we will be learning a variety of percussion instruments including
Samba drums and African drums. There is no cost for this as it is part of our music
curriculum that the school has paid for. This culminates in an end of year performance
at the Lowry theatre which we expect all pupils to attend and share the skills they
have learnt. Parents and children in the past have really enjoyed this experience. The
children will have a lesson every Tuesday afternoon.
French Day on the 26th September
We are having a whole school French Day where pupils will be visiting different
teachers to take part in a range of fun activities.
Lledr Hall Residential Visit – 17th -21st October
Pupils going to Lledr Hall will have a fabulous time at this residential visit. Please
don’t worry, we know from experience that children quickly settle in and take full
advantage of all the activities that are on offer. There will be a meeting on September
20th at 6.00pm in the school hall to discuss the formalities of the trip, all of the
activities and it will also be an opportunity for parents to ask any questions and speak
of any delicate matters to the staff members going with the children. Please try to
come along if you can.
Pupils in 4D will go to Lledr Hall on Mon17th- Wednesday 19th October. Pupils in
4OK will go to Lledr Hall Wednesday19th October to 21st October..
