Regression on the TI-86 Written by Jeff O’Connell – [email protected] Ohlone College http://www2.ohlone.edu/people2/joconnell/ti/ Steps: 1) Press [2nd] [LIST] and select [EDIT]. 2) Enter the x-coordinates in the xStat column and the y-coordinates in the yStat column. Note: If there are numbers already in either of the columns then use the arrows to highlight the name of the column (xstat or ystat) and press [CLEAR] then [ENTER] 3) Once the data have been entered press [EXIT] to get back to the home screen. 4) Press [2nd] [STAT] and select [CALC]. 5) Select the regression model you wish to choose according to the table below, then press [2nd] [LIST] select [NAMES] and chose [xstat] [,] [ystat]. For example, if you want a quadratic model the command should be P2REG xstat, ystat 6) Press [ENTER] to get the coefficients. Regression Model LinR LnR ExpR PwrR SinR LgstR P2REG P3REG P4REG Form of equation y = ax + b y = a + b ln x y = ab x y = ax b y = a sin( bx + c) + d c y= 1 + ae !b x y = ax 2 + bx + c y = ax 3 + bx 2 + cx + d y = ax 4 + bx 3 + cx 2 + dx + e Note: For the P2REG, P3REG, and P4REG the coefficients are given as a list. For example, in a P2REG an answer of {2.3 1.6 0.6} corresponds to the polynomial y = 2.3x 2 +1.6x + 0.6 .
