Our key sustainable design features

electricity which is not needed is fed back into the electricity
grid on a contracted agreement with the utility provider.
Over the years St James has won many prestigious awards
for the quality, design and sustainability of our developments.
The high levels of efficiency achieved by a CHP have
important benefits. For every unit of energy (heat or
electricity), produced by a CHP system from its input fuel
(gas), the levels of Carbon dioxide, oxides of nitrogen and
sulphur dioxide emitted are less than half of those
associated with a conventional coal-fired power station.*
Energy efficiency
The homes at Heritage Walk are designed to be very
efficient in their use of energy, with features including:

•All white goods ‘A’ rated or above
The water consuming fixtures and fittings in the homes
are selected to make sure that they use less water than the
average household in the UK. This includes a commitment
to enable a 26% reduction per person in water use in
comparison to the average household. This includes dual
flush toilets and water efficient white goods to achieve 105L
water usage per person per day.
Enhancing ecology
Heritage Walk is located on a site which previously had little
ecological value. The landscaping for the development has
been designed to enhance ecology and native plants have
been selected to attract native fauna. The private courtyard
gardens will feature aesthetically pleasing biodiverse green
roofs to support a range of habitats and encourage wildlife
to thrive.
Low carbon and
renewable energy
The apartments will be utilising a Combined Heat and Power
System (CHP) via a gas fuelled turbine. This provides heating
and hot water to each home by the hot water generated as well
as electricity to the communal and landlord areas. Any excess
Recycling bins are provided with each property, enabling
waste separation in line with the local authority collections.
