Volunteers are still needed
Contact Judy Mathews or Cindy Bruce to volunteer at the show.
Contact Karen Curlee if you like to volunteer to sell tickets for the raffle
quilt.
Are you as excited as I am about our upcoming quilt show, Cabin Fever? The
equipment is in, the ribbons ordered, programs and signs are ordered.
We have over one hundred quilts entered, 84 for judging, four youth quilts, eight art
quilts for a special exhibit and ten vintage or antique quilts for display.
Thank you for entering your quilts in our show. I'm anxious to see all the quilts and
to show the community all that our guild accomplishes.
Remember to bring your quilts to the Convention Center on Washington on Jan 6th.
Volunteers for set up, please be at the Convention Center at 8 AM.
Quilts must be delivered in pillowcases with your name, address, phone number, and
quilt name if applicable.
Your quilts will be available for pick up AFTER the show.
Groups such as silent auction, bazaar booth, demos, etc can set up on Wednesday
or Thursday or both days if needed.
Bazaar booth items and silent auction quilts will be accepted up to the dates of the
show.
Any donated fabric needs to be already priced.
Thank you for volunteering. Your help will make the quilt show a success!

Hope everyone who came had a good time at the annual Christmas party. If you missed it,
you missed some great food (especially the desserts!) and fellowship. You also had to be
real good at your listening skills and know your right from your left....if this doesn't make sense
then you missed some fun too! Check with someone who came to the party to understand
what I'm talking about.
The winner of our raffle quilt 2015 was so so excited when I sent her an e-mail Monday night.
She answered me right away as she had also just come home from her guild meeting in
Carrollton where they also drew for their 2015 quilt - what a coincidence! As luck would have
it, Jerry and I were going up to the Dallas area the next day and Laurie said "just let me know
where you will be and I'll come and get it. I'm so excited." It turned out she did buy her ticket
at the TAQG Rally Day in July. She bought 6 tickets for $5. We meet in Frisco Tuesday
evening and she said she was going home to hang it on the wall in their living room. So I felt
very good that the quilt was going to a loving home.
The other good news on the raffle quilt is that we did surpass our goal of $2,000!!! We took in
a total $2,256 - a great job to everyone.
What a great quilt the Loose Threads bee has done for us for next year. It will "premier" at the
Shop Hop during our show. Let's hope it gets off to a good start in sales.
So which group will step forward and start working on the quilt for 2017? We have this
process going and we need to continue it so we don't fall behind in timing for getting a quilt
done. If any group is thinking about, please let me know if I can answer any questions for
you.
Well we are really getting down to "show time". Everything is coming together for this to be a
great show. Thanks to everyone who is currently working on the show and to all of you who
have signed up to work some aspect of the show. This is a group effort, so I know you will do
what you can. Let's just really hope for some great weather that weekend.
I wish you all a very happy holiday season and hope it's a great New Year for you and the
guild, Karen.

Homespun Quilters’ Guild Board Minutes – Dec. 7, 2015


Membership: Joyce Jones reports that we now have 102 members. She also has
some leftover membership directories from last year for the taking.
Programs: Christmas party; Tina Dekle has planned 3 games with batting being the 3
prizes given. Winners of the Needle games will get the table decorations.
o She has the paper plates, cups, napkins and silverware.
o She will pick up the ice and sodas the afternoon of the party.
o She will need 4 or 5 people there about 5 PM to help decorate.
o Karen Woodard’s agenda for the meeting/party: Eat first, start the meeting while
finishing eating, drawing for the raffle quilt, unveiling of the 2016 quilt, UFO
queen named, show and tell if anyone brought items, then games. There will be
no door prizes, and only the return of library books.
o Rita Schormann is going to bring her book of workshops she teaches for us to
choose future classes. We will ask her to do a workshop in Jan. instead of our
speaker, Patti Nerherty, doing one.
o Currently there are no other changes in the programs.
o We would like to have pictures of the workshop projects or a website to help
decide if we are interested in taking the classes.
2015 Raffle Quilt: Karen Woodard reports the intake is $1909. Karen will contact the
12 people with outstanding tickets.
2016 Raffle Quilt: the packets containing tickets, a picture and information will be
available at the Christmas party.
2017 Raffle Quilt: no Bee has volunteered to design and sew it yet. Karen W. will ask
for Bee members to talk it over and consider taking on the challenge.
TAQG: Judy Mathews reports that July 17, 2016 is the meeting. Kimberly Einmo is
the speaker.
Friday Night Sew-ins: Karen W. will check the availability of the church in Feb.
Storage Unit & Equipment: Karen W. reports that the new equipment has been picked
up and taken to the storage unit. There is a slight problem with the base size for the
upright poles. They are ¾” instead of 1”. There will be a reduction in our cost, and the
Guild will not have to pay the bill until after our show to make sure they will still be
stable enough to hold the quilts.
Quilt Show Jan. 2016: total number of quilts is 115 with 82 to be judged. There are 10
antique quilts to be displayed. $920 has been taken in for quilt entries.
o Brenda Jeschke will be our only judge. She has signed and returned the
contract. Marilyn Hardy has verbally committed to judge the 2017 show.
o Silent Auction has 40 items turned in so far. Check with Barbara Burr to make
sure she has the bidding papers ready with a picture and minimum bid.
o Cindy Bruce is preparing the cards with a piece of candy attached to hand out at
the Shop Hop advertising the Quilt Show downstairs. She will need some help
assembling them and handing out.
3
o Rose Schroeder is working on the insurance for the show. A copy of the policy
must be turned in by the end of the month.
o Judy Mathews needs to know who will be bringing quilting hoops.
o Kathy Bayer has arranged for ads in the TX. Co-op, the Wacoan, Waco Today,
Community State Bank’s ad (twice), and Hometown News.
o Alice Baird is handling the Art Quilt display.
o Accent Printing needs all of the information to print the Show Programs 2 weeks
before we need them. So all of our information needs to be turned into Karen
Fleuriet by the 17th.
o We also need visitor sheets printed.
o The $5 entry fee will be printed on the posters.
o Karen W. showed the floor lay-out plans for the Show.

QUILT AS YOU GO WORKSHOP w/ RITA
Jan. 23
Two Options!
A. A reversible nine block table topper
Or
B. Assemble already quilted blocks together (A minimum of three needed)
Class to be taught on Saturday, January 23rd, in our regular meeting room, starting at 10:00 am until
4:00 pm, if needed.
Option A: Reversible nine block table topper
Materials needed:






2/3 yard of two different theme fabrics. For example, a Christmas fabric for side “A” and a
patriotic fabric for side “B”. Precutting: Cut five 10 inch squares of each fabric and then cut
the squares once on the diagonal.
¼ yard WOF of 4 different fabrics that coordinate with each of the two theme fabrics. (This
would be a total of 8 different fabrics.)Note: WOF [width of fabric] cuts are easier to work
with because of fewer seams, but you can use FQ [fat quarters] as well. Precutting: Cut three
2 ¼ inch strips (WOF) from each of the eight coordinating fabrics. If you are using FQ, cut as
many 2 ¼ inch strips as you can from each FQ.
Batting scraps. (You will need nine squares that are cut 9 ½ inches)
Two spools of thread that coordinate with the two theme fabrics. (These are for the bobbin)
A neutral thread for the needle of the machine.
Sashing and binding: Side “A” – ¼ yard WOF; Precutting strips for “A”: Cut strips 1 1/8 inches
wide for both the sashing and binding. Side “B” – 1/3 yard WOF. Precutting strips for “B”: Cut
strips for sashing, 1 ¾ inches wide and the strips for the binding, 1 5/8 inches wide.
Option B: Assemble already quilted blocks together


At least 3 already quilted blocks, trimmed to size. These can be any size, small or large.
Sashing and binding
If using the same fabric for both sides, ½ yard (See precutting instructions for sashing and
binding in Option A)
If using different fabrics for each side, 1/3 yard of two different fabrics
You will also need your sewing machine and your regular sewing supplies including hand sewing
supplies, and cutting mat, ruler and rotary cutter.

Tell Me Again What TAQG is???
As a confederation of quilt guilds in North, Central and East Texas, the TAQG
serves as a resource to local guilds in matters ranging from getting federal tax
exempt status, to dealing with bylaw issues, to putting forth interesting and
meaningful programs and activities. For example, did you know that cash
grants are available for small guilds for speakers, programs and even
equipment? TAQG exists to serve, and to promote the exchange of ideas
among member guilds. We celebrate quilting, and encourage quilting activities,
all the while promoting friendship, mutual aid and common interest. And your
key to the wealth of TAQG knowledge and experience is your guild's TAQG
representative.
--Marsha Meeks, President 2016
TAQG Rally Day is July 9th, 2016. A fun day with a nationally known speaker,
beautiful quilts, fabulous door prizes, miniature quilt silent auction, goodie bags,
and the opportunity to meet fellow quilters. The speaker is Kimberly Einmo, who
makes wonderful innovative quilts from fabric pre cuts.

THE BUZZ ABOUT BEES
Contact: Linda Buckner, Bee Keeper, [email protected]
The Homespun Quilters’ Guild sponsors many quilting bees to which members can belong.
There are bees that meet at night as well as bees that meet during the day. Some bees may
be highly organized where there is always some kind of group effort going on, and there are
very “hang-loose” bees whose members simply enjoy getting together to sew, talk and
maybe eat! Some bees meet in public places while others meet in member’s homes. Bees
may have limited membership because of space. If you are interested in joining a bee or
forming a new Bee, please let me know and I will work with you.
