D&T / Art
P.E.
Pupils will be designing and making a Mother’s day
present. Pupils will be encouraged to finely select
materials. Pupils will refine their work and
techniques as work progresses, continually
evaluating the product design.
Religious Education
The key question that pupils will
consider through enquiry skills is
do people need to go to church to
show they are Christians.
Geography
Pupils will focus on
locational
Knowledge, place
knowledge and will
learn about human
and physical
geography.
Looking forward:
Pupils will investigate some enterprising ways that
they can support a charity. They will know how
others can help them achieve their goals and how
they can help others. Pupils will think about the
importance of teamwork.
French
Literacy
Stories about imaginary worlds- Using ‘Fantastic Mr Fox’ by Roald Dahl,
pupils familiarise themselves with features of narrative, finding examples from
the book and through role play and hot-seating. Focus on direct speech and use
the features and format they have seen to plan and write their own fantastic
stories.
Recounts- Explore ‘The Day I Swapped my Dad for Two Goldfish’ by Neil
Gaiman and Dave McKean. Act out swap stories, learn about adverbials and
recounts using past tense and first person and chronological order. Write a new
version of ‘The Diary of a Killer Cat’, by Anne Fine, using recount features and
complex sentences. The Hamilton Group Reader, ‘The Diary of a Lively
Labrador’, is used to stretch more confident readers.
Traditional poems- Explore the poems of Robert Louis Stevenson, (‘A Child’s
Garden of Verses’ by Robert Louis Stevenson) and write a class poem using
rhyming couplets. Revise verb tenses and learn about prepositions. Explore the
poem ‘Windy Nights’ and learn it by heart. Produce a class book containing
poems written by the children.

Class
Spring 1
Our topic for the spring term is the Roman Empire and its impact on
Britain. Pupils will learn about the legend of the founding of Rome and
place events and objects into the correct periods of time. Pupils will
understand the benefits and impact of the Roman Ruling System and
recognise that the past is represented in different ways. Pupils will go
on to examine how the Roman Empire changed areas over time and
begin to ask why. They will understand key terms relating to the Celtic
period and gain knowledge of the way of life in an Iron Age settlement
as well as understanding how the Roman Empire emerged and
expanded in the three centuries before the Common Era.
Science
Our science focus will be on forces
and magnets. By the end of the unit
pupils will be able to identify pushes
& pulls as forces & explore how
things move on different surfaces.
They will find out about attraction &
repulsion by magnetic forces &
which materials are magnetic. Pupils
will look at compasses & uses of
magnets and will carry out some
enquiries using magnets
.
I.C.T
This half term the I.C.T unit is called We are Musicians. Pupils
