Meet some of the members of our new ‘Press Gang’
as we celebrated our World Book Day in school.
Originally, it took place on 23 April 1995 but now it
takes place on the first Thursday in March. The day
is designated to the celebration of books, authors and
illustrators. Happy reading with your new books!
What do astronauts do when they are
angry? Blast off! Tim Peake was born
on 7 April 1972 and he’s the 7th British
astronaut to go into space. Tim is a major in the
British Air Force, graduating as a helicopter pilot in 1994. In May, 2009, Tim was selected as
an ESA (European Space Astronaut) and beat
over 8,000 applicants to go on this recent mission. After the launch on 15 December 2015, he
is now spending six months on the international
space station conducting experiments within the
Columbus laboratory. His training has included
learning Russian and living underwater for
twelve days. Tim took five things with him into
space : a sick bag, Uri Gagarin’s book from former British astronaut Helen Sharman, exercise
shoes, family photographs and a flashlight.

Are you sick of the same, old, rainy
drizzle? Well, turn that around by enjoying a couple of days sunshine on the
beautiful Tenerife island of Spain.
During the day, the temperature can be
at least 25 degrees (hot enough to get a
good tan!).You might see a little rain
but it’s easily overlooked by the colourful rainbows and blazing sun.
The hotels are sure to put a grin on your
face. I would recommend the Aguamar
apartments in Los Cristianos. This was
self-catering but felt like an all inclusive. The rooms are spotless and it has
relaxing pools which could entice you
to stay there all day!
If you leave from Manchester airport in
March, you’ll find many great deals on,
leaving you enough cash to spend on
city visits.

William Gallagher talks about
his passion for football.
I started to play football at the
age of five. At the beginning,
I played with my brothers.
My favourite position to
play in would be as a striker
or a midfielder. My best goal took place from
the halfway line, 35 yards back. At the moment, I play for ‘Skem North’ and the school
team. I support Everton and the forward player Romelu Lukaku. Their grounds are at
Goodison Park, Liverpool. My advice to
younger players would be to practise your
passing so you are good with your right and
left foot.

Joseph Delaney was born in 1945, Preston and has remained in Lancashire all his life. For
years, he wanted to be a writer but it was about 1990, when he started to take his writing
seriously. Before becoming a full time writer he was the Head of Film and Media Studies at
the Blackpool Sixth Form College. The Spook’s Series is partly influenced by Lancashire folk
tales and places of local interest. Thus, boggarts and witches are the main routine enemies of
the Spook and his apprentice, Tom. Now, he actually lives in the village of Stalmine (referred
to as ‘Staumin’ in ‘The Spook’s Apprentice’). Our top five recommendations are as follows:
