The Renaissance Scholarship is administered by the DeKalb County Community Foundation. This scholarship
program allows the Foundation to award a scholarship to a DeKalb County resident who is in the work force and
wants to re-enter the academic world. The student should be active in public and civic affairs and be able to
demonstrate a need for scholarship assistance. The scholarship can be applied toward education expenses (tuition
and fees) at any recognized university or community college for undergraduate study. After the initial scholarship,
the award can be renewed for three succeeding years.
Yvonne Johnson, retired Sycamore teacher, originated the Renaissance Scholarship in 2007. Ms. Johnson works
with the Foundation to establish a Renaissance Scholarship selection committee composed of citizens of DeKalb
County to work independently to review all applications and select the scholarship recipient. They will make their
selection free of political consideration and bias. The scholarship committee reserves the right not to fund the
scholarship during any given year.
