KNOTWEED

Japanese knotweed (Fallopia japonica) is a non-native invasive plant species governed by legislation and a recognised risk to
property. This leaflet is provided to help you identify this plant and how we (Japanese Knotweed Ltd) can help you manage
and remove it.
LEAVES
Lush green, heart or
shovel shaped leaves up
to 200mm long

Identifying knotweed
in Spring
Stems emerge as soft red/purple and
green shoots, reminiscent of asparagus
spears.

in Summer
Within a few weeks it will reach full
height of up to 3m tall, flowering in late
summer.
Identifying
knotweed in Winter
The green leafy growth will die off in the
winter leaving brown, dried out brittle
stems.

Japanese knotweed (Fallopia japonica) is a non-native invasive plant species listed under Section 14, Schedule 9 of the
Wild Life and Countryside Act.
Reporting the presence of this plant is very important, as failure to do so may result in the knotweed:

Spreading to neighbouring properties
Causing ecological damage to surrounding flora and fauna
Causing structural damage to the property
Placing Lambeth in contravention of the Anti-Social Behaviour Crime & Policing Act (potential fines)
Placing Lambeth in contravention of Infrastructure Act (potential fines)
If you think you have spotted Japanese knotweed on a Lambeth managed property or site please do the following:
1. Report the occurrence to your estate officer
2. Estate Officer to raise a Referral Form and issue to [email protected]
Japanese Knotweed Ltd (JKL) are contracted on a Framework agreement to Lambeth and will receive all raised referral
forms. Upon receipt JKL will arrange an inspection where necessary and implement a knotweed treatment or removal
programme, backed by Guarantee.
