February 19-20: Kokomo, Indiana May 20-21:Brighton, Michigan September 16-17: Beavercreek, Ohio The first Valentine was posted around 1806. Almost one billion Valentine's Day cards are sent each year on or near February 14. The history is somewhat murky as to how Valentine's Day has come to be what we now know and celebrate. Saint Valentine served in third-century Rome. Emperor Claudius decided that single men made better soldiers. Therefore, Claudius banned soldiers from being married. One version of the story is that Valentine continued to perform the weddings of young soldiers who were in love, and Claudius had Valentine imprisoned. While imprisoned, Valentine reportedly fell in love with the jailer's daughter. Valentine sent her a card and signed it, "Love, your Valentine." Another version is that Valentine defied Claudius by helping Christians escape the torture of the Romans. Valentine died in approximately A.D. 270. Others claim the church may have decided to celebrate in mid February to "Christianize" the pagan Roman celebration Lupercalia. There is no biblical reason why Christians should not celebrate Valentine’s Day by giving their loved ones flowers, candy and/or cards. Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me. Matt 25:40. Be full of love for others, following the example of Christ who loved you and gave Himself to God as a sacrifice to take away you sins Eph5:2. Wednesday evenings Ephesians 5: 1,2 in the LIBRARY at Mt. Olivet In this passage of scripture Paul teaches we should “be ...imitators ALL are invited of God, as beloved children; and walk in love, just as Christtoloved you and participate in gave the himself up for us…” When we live out our faith as taughtprayer our living rises to gathering atGod 8pm.as a sweet fragrance. So, here is a brief overview of imitating our God: In the Synoptic Gospels—Matthew, Mark, and Luke—we are the salt of the earth and the light of the word. In John we are the fruit connected to Christ, who is the Vine. In Acts we are people of the Way. In Romans we are joint heirs with Christ, sharing His inheritance. In Corinthians we are a temple—a dwelling place of God. In Galatians we are sons and daughters of God—one in Christ. In Ephesians we are saints, fellow citizens with the rest of God’s family. In Philippians we are citizens of heaven, seated in heaven right now. In Colossians we are hidden with Christ in God. In Thessalonians we are chosen of God, holy and dearly loved. In Timothy we are those who have been given a spirit of power, love and self-discipline. In Titus we are those who have been set apart according to God’s doing. In Philemon we are soldiers. In Hebrews we are those who have been purified by the offering of our great High Priest. In James we are brothers and sisters. In Peter we are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people of God’s own possession. In John’ s epistles we are children of Christ who will resemble Christ when He returns. In Jude, we are those who are called, beloved of God. And in Revelation we are those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life. As His family let’s walk a bit taller today. See you Sunday, Pastor Jerry Tuesday, February 16th @ 6pm. If you’ve never come to the birthday dinner, this is a good time to start! GREAT: food, fun, & company!
