Well-developed executive functioning skills allow us to retain and work
with information in our brains. This includes focusing our attention,
filtering distractions, switching mental gears, and making connections
to our past experiences with present actions. Although we are not
born with fully developed executive functioning skills, we are born
with the potential to develop them. Researchers in this field of child
development has identified this evolution, which begins at infancy and
continues through late adolescence. The research proves executive
functioning skills occur through both developmental brain growth and
through practicing various processes.
This session will provide educational activities aimed at promoting
executive functioning brain growth by using music, nursery rhymes,
dramatic play, and age-appropriate developmental occupational and
physical activities. Designing explicit, purposeful, playful activities
while simultaneously promoting learning, will not only be fun for
students but will help promote growth in various areas.
