The holiday season is quickly approaching. I know all too well how
quickly our calendars can fill up, especially during this time of year, so I
ask that you spend some time with our calendar in this Ridge Reader in
order to be aware of what we are doing over the next two months.
Make note of multiple musical opportunities including special music during
worship, caroling, and a hymn sing. We have an event with both childcare
facilities, Doughnuts with Santa, including a Christmas toy drive for local
families. Christmas is on a Sunday this year, and after prayer
consideration and feedback from the congregation, Worship Committee
has decided to continue our Christmas Eve candle-light service in lieu of
morning worship on Christmas day. Our intent is that we desire to all
celebrate Christ's birth together instead of splitting our community
between two different services. While our calendars will be full, I urge
you to make time for yourself, your family and friends, and your God
during this busy season.
I have never been a picture person, meaning someone who
remembers to take pictures! However as a new father, I am trying to do
better. As such, I have been practicing taking selfies when out with
members of our community and there are some pictures below and
continued on the next page - I hope you enjoy them!

Narthex (in alphabetical order) starting on Sunday, December 4th and for the
whole month of December for pick-up. If you did not get a 2016 offering book
and would like to receive a 2017 offering book, please call or email Julie in the

unable to pick-up their book may contact the church office to have it mailed.

The Worship Committee would like to
invite everyone to a Potluck Dessert
Christmas Carol Hymn Sing-a-long on
Wednesday, November 30th from
7-8:30pm in the Fellowship Hall and
Sanctuary. Dress festive and bring your
favorite dessert - beverages will be
provided. As part of the committee’s
Advent mission they are encouraging
everyone who attends to bring an
unwrapped new toy for a boy or girl
ages 1yr. old to 15yrs. old. These items
will be donated to two charities The Metropolitan Center for Women
and Children and Project Homecoming.
Come and join us for Doughnuts with
Santa on Saturday, December 10th
from 9:00-10:30am in the
Fellowship Hall.
We will be collecting new, unwrapped
toys (boy or girl) to donate to the
Metropolitan Center for Women and
Children and Project Homecoming Families.
We will also have coffee, orange juice, milk,
and chocolate milk available.
Make sure to bring your camera!
There will be a special backdrop for families
to take a photo with Santa.
Everyone is welcome to join us for a worthy cause
and a free doughnut breakfast!

Baker’s Dozen on Jefferson Hwy.
in Jefferson.
Join us for Christmas Caroling to
homebound members and the community
on Sunday , December 11th from
4pm-6pm. We will meet and carpool from
Fellowship Hall at 4pm. For more

WHAT’S GOING ON WITH OUR CHILD CARE CENTERS?
A Message From Our Child Development Center Director, Darlene Evans
I am please to tell you that the Child Development Center is almost at full capacity and all of my
teachers returned this school year. Open House was held on Tuesday, September 6th to inform parents of the
schedule and curriculum we are using. Most of the children have now adjusted to the program and it is a pleasure
to visit the classrooms and see participation and progress. I would like to thank parents and the teachers
for being so patient.
Trigg Vonderhaar (Lily) has been diligently counting “Box Top” (10¢ a “Box Top”) for our ongoing
year long fundraiser. Also, the sale of the Save Around Town books fundraiser has ended and we
have raised $2,200. We are hoping to use some of the fundraising money to make some much needed
upgrades in our playground.
The Young 4’s and Pre-K will have their annual Thanksgiving Dinner on Wednesday, November 16th at 11:30.
We will once again this year have Doughnuts with Santa on Saturday, December 10th from 9-10:30am in the
Fellowship Hall. A flyer will be sent home with more details. If you would like to volunteer for the event please
contact me at 833-9463.
Thank you for everyone’s help and please continue to save those “Box Tops!”
Welcome Sara Robertson as our Assistant Daycare Director!
Sara started the Daycare Center in December of last year part time.
In May of this year she started full time as the
Assistant Director. You will most likely see Sara around the
Daycare Center Monday-Friday from 10am-6pm.
Sara is also a parent of Daycare since July of this year.
She is originally from Missouri, studied non-profit leadership
in college, and worked the last two years
at Benjamin Franklin Elementary.
A Message From Our Day Care Center Director, Susan Acosta
Day Care is having a slow start this year. We have a total of 35 children attending now and
14 starting in the next few months. I have been getting many phone calls from expecting
mothers who would like to be put on our waiting list with the hopes that there will be a
spot available for their infant when the time comes.
There are several special events happening in the next several months. The 1 & 2yr. old classes will have their
Halloween party on October 31st in the classrooms. There will be a Thanksgiving meal on Thursday, November
17th at 11:00am in the Fellowship Hall for all of our teachers, parents, and the 6 weeks to 2 year old classes.
On Saturday, December 10th from 9:00-10:30am, please make sure to bring your children here for Doughnuts
with Santa! There will be doughnuts and different beverages served that morning. Also make sure to bring your
camera to have the children's’/family picture taken with Santa. The 1 & 2yr. old classes' will also have their
Christmas party on Tuesday, December 20th in their classrooms. Stay tuned for more details to be sent home.
I would like to thank the parents for giving us the opportunity to take care of and be a part of their children’s
lives, and I would like to thank my teachers for all their hard work and dedication.
