The River Nile - Primary Leap Worksheets.

The Nile
The River Nile is about 6,650 km long, making it the longest
river in the world.
The Nile runs through Egypt, Ethiopia, Sudan, Rwanda, Kenya,
Uganda, Tanazania and Burundi. It has two major tributaries,
the White Nile and the Blue Nile. The White Nile starts at Lake
Victoria and the Blue Nile starts at Lake Tana.
The source of the Nile starts in Burundi in central Africa. The
mouth of the River Nile ends in Egypt and runs into the Mediterranean Sea. The northern
section of the Nile flows through desert, from Sudan to Egypt.
The Ancient Egyptians lived and farmed along the banks of the Nile. Each year the Nile
would flood, depositing minerals and nutrients onto the land which made the soil
excellent for farming. Since 1970 with the opening of the Aswan Dam, this flooding is
now controlled.
The Nile River Delta is home to many different animals including crocodiles, turtles,
baboons, and many species of birds. The most famous animal in the Nile is the Nile
crocodile. They can reach up to 10 feet in length and weigh up to 1500 pounds.
