It is a three-story, three-dimensional stained-glass globe that you walk through, The globe surrounds you on all sides and is lit up from the outside. Created in 1935, the mapparium is a fascinating snapshot of the geo-political borders of the early 20th century. I enjoyed the beauty of being surrounded on all sides by stained/painted glass and the amazement of how much the world has changed in just 80 years (one Tue-Sun 10-4 lifetime!). The acoustics of being inside a glass ball were also really fun. There is a small admission fee and tours start every few minutes. While the tours only take 15 minutes, give yourself some extra time to explore the rest of the library.
