BIG IDEA:

stank?
Purpose:
You will deliver a persuasive speech for three minutes or fewer. Your purpose is to convince your audience of a
paradigm shift involving the meaning of a word in English.
To Consider:





Spoken delivery of an essay should be similar to written version. You won’t need to directly cite your evidence, but be
able to say the name of the source or author and summarize the idea.
Watch your audience and anticipate their needs; go on to the next idea if they appear to understand.
Speak conversationally, but do the work. Connect your evidence to your claim.
Your conclusion doesn’t need to wrap up every idea for this short speech. Just remind the audience of your thesis and
then connect to the big idea.
You should upload a PowerPoint with basic pictures or quotes to use during your presentations. Do not write entire
passages. You must save it as “PODEF-LASTNAME”; i.e. “PODEF-McSparkles”
