JUNE 2 0 1 7 Photos: Chloe Kan 2017 Junior Junior & SNAG Golf This year the Junior Committee introduced SNAG golf equipment to the Jr. Jr. Program. SNAG allows for full shots, pitching, chipping and putting in a fun and safe environment. Our SNAG golf equipment was a huge hit with the kids. They loved the colorful balls and clubs and had a blast hitting at the sticky suit (thanks to Chris Crisologo for being the target)! Maybe we will even start adult SNAG golf soon!! Registration is now open for our next round of Jr. Jr. Clinics coming up in July: Junior Junior Program #2 Ages 4-11 Dates: July 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th. Marine Drive Golf Club l 7425 Yew St. l Vancouver, BC l 604.261.8111 Lu & Crisologo Qualify for US Open Sectional Qualifiers 3rd Annual Heritage Cup Classic Wow — what a day! Saturday, May 13, 2017 saw an end to the relentless winter and challenges with the greens as the Golfing Goddesses and Gods saw fit to let the sun shine while our Links Staff prepared 13 greens for play. 96 Marine Drivers of all handicap levels teed it up in four person teams drawn from all categories — Junior, Intermediate and Regular, Senior & Social — and played a two best net ball with modified Stableford scoring. Congratulations to Jordan Lu and Chris Crisologo who both qualified for the US Open Sectional Qualifier in Tacoma, WA on June 5th. Lu shot a 2-under par round of 70 at Canterwood Golf & Country Club in Gig Harbor, Washington to share a 3-way tie for medalist honours and advance to a US Open Sectional Qualifier. The newly acquired MDGC Heritage Cup trophy came to us already filled with its own chunk of heritage. Doug Stewart was gracious in donating his BC Junior Boys’ Trophy (one of three consecutive victories) to signify our Heritage over the ages. The team of Harry White, Lorna Roxburgh, Sue Biddle and Adam Mills are the 2017 MDGC Heritage Cup Classic Champs. Crisologo shot a 3-under par round of 69 at Wine Valley Golf Club in Walla Walla, Washington to finish in a tie for 3rd place and advances to a US Open Sectional Qualifier. Good luck to Jordan & Chris at Tacoma Country & Golf Club on Monday, June 5! Chris Crisologo Named NCAA First Team All-American Chris Crisologo was named NCAA PING First-Team All-American by the Golf Coaches Association of America, marking the first time an SFU Clan golfer has been named to the First Team. Crisologo won four individual titles this season and was named Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year and AllConference First Team for the second consecutive year. Chris put together his most dominant season to date, finishing in the Top 10 at 7 of 10 tournaments. He averaged 71.07 strokes per round and carded scores under par in 19 of 28 rounds. Mike Riste, our very own historian and the driving force behind the BC Golf House Museum and Golf Hall of Fame, was on the fourth hole with hickory golf clubs that were used to hit one’s tee shot and try for the women’s or men’s KP. Mike also enlightened us on more of MDGC Heritage from the early days, presenting a lot of firsts in our history during the evening activities. Harry White & Doug Stewart also gave us some of their stories about our heritage and the future of our talented Juniors and elite Intermediates, many of whom were participants that day. MDGC Food & Beverage did a great job with serving snacks on the course and a sumptuous dinner, and as usual, The Golf Shop conducted a great competition. Wednesday Ladies’ Night Weekend Women’s Report For our first Ladies’ Night, held on Wednesday, May 17, we had a Mexican Theme. An Irish immigrant to Canada, Macan volunteered for service in World War I and fought in the Battle of Vimy Ridge. After the war he returned to Canada to play competitive golf and design golf courses. Along with Marine Drive, Macan also designed Royal Colwood (1913), Gorge Vale (1920), University (1927), Richmond (1959) & Shaughnessy (1959), to name a few.
