23 February 2017 Program to help maintain independence welcomed Aged & Community Services Australia CEO, Pat Sparrow, today welcomed the announcement, by the Hon Ken Wyatt Minister for Aged Care, of places that will help support consumers remain in their own homes as they age. The Short Term Restorative Care (STRC) places are a new form of flexible aged care, provided for up to eight weeks. They aim to help people who are experiencing illness or who have suffered an injury to recover and remain in the community and prevent premature entry to residential aged care. “ACSA very much welcomes today’s announcement of the commencement of the program. Our aged care provider members have a strong commitment towards restorative care and do great work in this area,” ACSA CEO Pat Sparrow said. “The number of applications for the places available are a good indication of this commitment. Aged care providers want to be able to adopt restorative care approaches in all of the services they deliver. How this can be achieved will be an ongoing discussion point as aged care reform progresses.” Information about the 2016−17 Short‐Term Restorative Care outcomes, including details of the successful approved providers, is available at: https://agedcare.health.gov.au/2016‐ 17ACAR Media contacts: Pat Sparrow, ACSA CEO: 0410 492 235 Heather Witham, Government Relations and Media Manager: 0437 911 276
