WHAT IS WORD?
Microsoft Word 2010 is a word-processing
program, designed to help
you create
professional-quality documents. Word helps you
organize and write your documents more
efficiently. The default extension name of MSWord 2010 is .docx .
GETTING STARTED - MICROSOFT WORD 2010
To start MS Word follows these steps: 1) Click Start button,
2) Go to All Programs,
3) Click on Microsoft Office,
4) Click on Microsoft Word 2016.
MAIN COMPONENT OF MS-WORD
The main components of MS-Word are: ► Title bar
► Tab
► Quick Access Toolbar
► Ribbon
► Rulers
► Scroll Bar
► Document Area
► Status Bar
► Zoom controller
SAVING A DOCUMENT:
1) Click the File tab and select Save option.
2) Find a location where you would like to
save the document.
3) Type a file name & click Save button.
OPENING EXISTING DOCUMENT:
1) Click the File tab, & select Open option.
This will display following file Open dialog
box.
2) Finally locate and select a file which you
want to open,
3) Click on Open button.
PAGE SIZE: 1) Go to Page Layout tab,
2) Click Size button in the Page Setup group.
3) You can select any of the predefined sizes
from the list,
4) If you want to more paper sizes, then you
click More paper sizes option.
5) It will open a page setup dialog box, where
you can set different types of page sizes.

MARGINS: Margins are the space between the edge
of the paper and the text. You can adjust the
right, left, top, and bottom margins of your
document.
ADJUST MARGINS: 1) Go to Page Layout tab,
2) Click Margins button in the Page Setup
group.
3) You can select any of the predefined
margins from the list,
4) If you want to more margins, then you click
Custom margins option.
5) It will open a page setup dialog box, where
you can set different types of margins,
6) If you add an extra space for binding, then
you use Gutter text box,
7) Put gutter size and select the side of
gutter,
8) Then click OK.
CHANGE MEASUREMENT UNIT: 1) Go to File tab,
2) Click Options,
3) Choose advanced tab,
4) Under Display group you can change the
measurement unit,
5) Click OK.
PAGE ORIENTATION: There are two types of page orientation,
1) Portrait
2) Landscape.
Portrait Orientation: - In this case page width
is less than page height.
Landscape Orientation: - In which case page
width will be more than page height.
CHANGE PAGE ORIENTATION: 1) Go to Page Layout tab,
2) Click Orientation button in the Page Setup
group.
3) Click any of the options you want to set to
orientation.

WATERMARK: This is often used to indicate that a
document is to be treated especially such as
Confidential or urgent. To create watermark
follow these steps:
 Go to Page layout tab,
 Click the Watermark Button in the Page
background group,
 Click custom watermark option,
 Choose Picture or text watermark,
 After setting watermark click Ok button.
PAGE COLOR:  Go to Page layout tab,
 Click the Page Color Button in the Page
background group,
 Choose any color & click on it.
BORDERS:  Go to Page layout tab,
 Click the Page Border Button in the Page
background group,
 Click Page border tab,
 After customizing the border click OK.

CHANGE FONT TYPE / SIZE: 1) Select the text,

GROW & SHRINK FONT BUTTONS: It is the quickest way to reduce or enlarge
the font size.
 Grow Font button can be used to enlarge
font size.
 Shrink Font button can be used to reduce
the font size.
MAKING TEXT BOLD / ITALIC / UNDERLINE : 1) Select the text that you want to change,
2) Go to Home tab,
3) Bold [ B ] or Italic [ I ] or Underline [U]

CHANGE CASE: Change selected text into any one of case,
like – Sentence case, Lower case, Upper
case, Title case, Toggle case. Following are
steps for Change case:1) Select the text that you want to change,
2) Click on Change Case button,
3) Select any case option and click on it,
Or, simply use Shift + F3.
CLEAR FORMATTING: - It is used to reset any
text as default formatting.
1) Select the text that you want to reset,
2) Go to Home tab.
3) Click Clear Formatting button in Font
group,
Or, simply use Ctrl + Spacebar.
STRIKETHROUGH / SUBSCRIPT /
SUPERSCRIPT THE TEXT:
1) Select the text that you want to change.
2) Go to Home tab,
HIGHLIGHT TEXT WITH COLORS: You can highlight a selected text using any
color and it looks like it was marked with a
highlighter pen.
 Select the text that you want to change,
 Go to Home tab.
 Click Text Highlight Color button in
the Font group,
 Choose any color and click on it.
CHANGE FONT COLORS: You can change your font as you like.
 Select the text that you want to change.
 Go to Home tab,
 Click Font Color button in the Font group,
 Choose any color and click on it.
FORMAT PAINTER: If you already have a well formatted text and you
want to apply similar formatting to another text
then you use Format painter. Following are the
simple steps: 1) Select the text containing the formatting
that you want to copy,
2) Go to Home tab,

3) Click the Format Painter button in the
clipboard group.
4) As soon as you click the format painter
button, the mouse pointer changes to a
paintbrush.
5) Now drag the mouse pointer over that text,
which you want to apply.
USING CLIPBOARD: Normally we can copy & paste one item at a time,
but with the help of Clipboard option we can copy
24 different items at a time & paste it as we like.
Go to Home tab,
1) Click on Clipboard launcher box,
2) In the left side of the window there are a
clipboard navigation pane will open,
3) Now copy different item up to 24 time,
4) You will see the copying item on clipboard
navigation pane,
5) After complete your coping process, use it
for paste.

want to search and a word in Replace with
box which would like to replace,
4) Then click on Replace all Button.
STYLES GROUP: In the styles window you can quickly change
the style of your document.
1) Go to Home tab,

types of styles available.

INDENTATION: There are three types of Indentation, like
Paragraph Indentation, First Line Indentation and
Hanging Indentation.
Paragraph Indentation: - It means move the
paragraph towards the center. The steps are:

3) Click Increase Indent button in the
Paragraph group

First Line Indentation: - Move the first line of a
paragraph toward the center.

4) Select First Line Option from special
option.
Hanging Indentation: - Move the paragraph
except first line toward the center.
1) Click anywhere on the paragraph,

TAB STOPS: Tab stops are a useful option to creating a
large number of documents such as Bio-data,
any type of Bill, Table etc. There are different
types of tab stops, like
1) Left Tab stop: - It sets the start position of
text.
2) Center Tab stop: - It sets the middle
position of text.
3) Right Tab stop: - It sets the right position
of text.
4) Decimal Tab stop: - It aligns numbers
around a decimal point.
5) Bar Tab stop: - It doesn't position text. It
inserts a vertical bar at the tab position.
NOTE: You can drag existing tab stops left or
right along the ruler to a different position.

CLEAR TAB STOPS: We can clear tab stops in a simplest way.
Click and hold on the tab stop and drag in
down towards the document. The tab stop will
disappear, but if you want to remove all tab
stops at a time then we should follow these
steps: 1) Go to Home tab,
2) Click the Paragraph Dialog Box Launcher,
3) A Paragraph box will appear, click on the
Tabs button at the bottom left of the dialog
box,
4) A Tabs dialog box will appear,
5) Click on clear or clear all button,
6) Click OK.
SHADING: This option is used for shading behind the text.
