MEMORANDUM FOR RECORD
SUBJECT: Minutes of the Fitness Council Meeting, July 5, 2016
Attendees:
Natarsha Goode
Martin Rush Steiner
Charles Whyde
Discussion: Mr. Whyde opened the Monthly Fitness Council Meeting and introduced
himself and then the other attendees did the same. Meeting minutes and deliverables from the
July 5, 2016 Weekly Staff Meeting are attached to this memorandum.
The main goal of this council is to keep the DLA population informed and involved in
matters that pertain to the Fitness Center. We want to make this the best Fitness Center for our
patrons and believe we can do this with the help and input of our valued patrons. Another reason
will be to restore trust with patrons and know that they will have a voice moving forward. We
can work closely together and work towards our common goal of meeting our customer’s needs.
The following topics were discussed during the meeting and will be reviewed by Ursula
Hickox for action.
a. Continue instructor lead group fitness classes:
1. Patrons purchase card for group fitness classes.
• The card for example would have 10 slots and when you attend a class
the instructor will use a hole punch to show that you attended a class.
The cards would for example cost $20.00 for a 10 class card, this would
allow you to attend any 10 classes that the Fitness Center offers.
b. Fitness Center Layout:
1. If we are not going to return the Fitness Center to the previous layout, are there a
couple machines that we can move and make it more functional for everyone.
Maybe reducing the least used machines and making more room for the more
utilized pieces of equipment. This is definitely worth looking into.
2. This could be accomplished by talking with existing SME’s at the fitness or a
survey. We can do this along with possibly sending our renderings to Life Fitness.
c. Personal Trainer/Instructor:
1. Could we hire a staff member to offer personal training and teach some group
fitness classes?
d. Drinks/Juice Bar:
1. Could we look into getting a juice bar or sell drinks and power bars? I stated that
we are already looking into this and should have something ready in the near
future. The juice bar maybe something that is more feasible once we get in our
new location.
e. Bubble Cover:
1. Would it be possible to get a cover for the pool? I think some people like being in
the sun and swimming at the same time. It might be an option for the winter if the
demand warranted it.
2. I think if we could put a bubble cover over one of the tennis courts; we might be
able to use it for a Functional Fitness area to expand our services. Just something
we might want to look at for the future. It is predicted to see an increase in our
active/reserve military population and it’s popular with the younger crowd as well.
f. Survey Results:
1. The survey was finished before the meeting, but due to time constraints the results
were not sent out for the council members to review. The results will be a primary
topic of our next meeting.
g. Meeting frequency:
1. Meetings will be conducted monthly unless otherwise voted on.
