Pre-session Packet - The Redeemer`s Key

The Redeemer’s Key
Pre-Session Packet
Introduction to The Redeemer’s Key
Freedom is the ability to respond in life and
to God as the person you were created to be.
You live a powerful Christian life when you are
plugged into who and what Jesus accomplished
2 Corinthians 3:18 And we, who with unveiled
faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being
transformed into his likeness with everincreasing glory, which comes from the Lord,
who is the Spirit.
There are many things that draw your
attention away from the most important
things in life. It is necessary to continue to
remind yourself of what the New Testament
teaches you to do about these distractions and
what the potential reward is in maintaining
proper focus.
2 Corinthians 10:5 We demolish arguments
and every pretension that sets itself up against
the knowledge of God, and we take captive
every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
The Redeemer’s Key contains alignment
tools which can help you to come into a more
perfect agreement with the heart of Father, the
character of Jesus and the power of the Holy
Spirit. Picture this: when six teeth on a key are
perfectly aligned with tumblers in a lock, the key
turns, and the lock is released. Alignment comes
as you:
by His death and resurrection.
Colossians 2:9-10 For in Christ all the fullness
10
of the Deity lives in bodily form,
and you
have been given fullness in Christ, who is the
head over every power and authority.
By focusing on Christ, you allow the Holy
Spirit to minister the things that Christ has
accomplished.
Hebrews 12:1b-2 Let us throw off everything
that hinders and the sin that so easily
entangles, and let us run with perseverance
2
the race marked out for us. Let us fix our
eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our
faith, who for the joy set before him endured
the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at
the right hand of the throne of God.
You go where you look. When learning to ride
a bike (especially around a corner) you are
taught to “look where you want to go.” Direct
your eyes in a specific direction and your body
(and in this case the bike) will naturally follow.
So too in life: you go where you focus.
Focus determines which nature is in control.
Your focus on things above does have power
over flesh. It does have power to change your
inner condition. It switches on and empowers
the new nature in Christ. You live as those who
have been raised with Christ. In other words,
you live in resurrection power while still on the
earth.
 CONFESS – Confession is not saying, “I’m
sorry”; it is openly admitting “I did it.” James 5:16
Therefore confess your
sins to each other and
pray for each other so that
you may be healed. The
prayer of a righteous man
is powerful and effective.
 REPENT – Repentance
means to change your
attitude, thoughts, and
behaviors concerning the
demands of God for your
life and embrace His ways.
Acts 3:19 Repent, then, and turn to God, so that
your sins may be wiped out, that times of
refreshing may come from the Lord.
 FORGIVE – Forgiveness unhooks you from
those who have caused you pain; Satan loses
his power over you, and God’s healing touch is
free to move. 2 Corinthians 2:10-11 If you
forgive anyone, I also forgive him. And what I
have forgiven—if there was anything to forgive—
I have forgiven in the sight of Christ for your
11
sake, in order that Satan might not outwit us.
For we are not unaware of his schemes.
 RENOUNCE – As the devil’s lies and
schemes are revealed, you renounce them—
formally refusing to believe his lies or participate
in his schemes. James 4:7 Submit yourselves,
then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee
from you.
Pre-Session Packet (p. 1)
 ANNOUNCE – Verbally announcing your
agreement with God’s Word and His character
encourages you to draw your identity from Jesus
and your heritage from your Heavenly Dad.
Romans 10:9-10 If you confess with your mouth,
“Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that
God raised him from the dead, you will be
10
saved.
For it is with your heart that you
believe and are justified, and it is with your
mouth that you confess and are saved.
 RECEIVE – It’s not enough to just believe in
freedom, you must receive it! Matthew 21:22 If
you believe, you will receive whatever you ask
for in prayer.
It is your choice to walk into God’s light. The
Redeemer’s Key is designed to allow the Lord to
shed His light on those attitudes, thought
patterns and behaviors that undermine His
purposes for your life. Surrendering your will to
God’s will is part of the battle. There is a spiritual
enemy, the devil, scheming to deceive, distract,
and destroy you. The Good News is that we
stand with Jesus in a place of victory.
John 10:9-10 I am the gate; whoever enters
through me will be saved. He will come in and
10
go out, and find pasture.
The thief comes
only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come
that they may have life, and have it to the full.
Too many Christians have little or no training or
experience in dealing with Satan’s schemes.
The Good News is that you are not a helpless
victim caught in a tug-of-war match between two
nearly
equal
but
opposite
heavenly
superpowers—God and Satan. Only God is allpowerful, always present, and all-knowing.
Colossians 2:13-14 For he has rescued us
from the dominion of darkness and brought us
14
into the kingdom of the Son he loves,
in
whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of
sins.
God has intended you to be strong in His
mighty power, so that when attacked, you can
stand your ground.
John 14:16-17 And I will ask the Father, and
he will give you another Counselor to be with
17
you forever—
the Spirit of truth. The world
cannot accept him, because it neither sees
him nor knows him. But you know him, for he
lives with you and will be in you.
In this moment, believe the truth that God is
for you—nothing and no one can stand against
you. Romans 8:31b If God is for us, who can be
against us?
Submit to God inwardly while resisting the
devil outwardly. Do this by praying each prayer
and making each declaration aloud. While God
knows your thoughts, the devil cannot read your
mind—you must verbally resist the devil for him
to know you are resisting him. As a believer in
Christ, you can pray with Christ’s authority to
stop any interference by Satan.
Matthew 28:18-20 Then Jesus came to them
and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth
19
has been given to me.
Therefore go and
make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in
the name of the Father and of the Son and of
20
the Holy Spirit,
and teaching them to obey
everything I have commanded you. And surely
I am with you always, to the very end of the
age.”
JESUS IS THE SAVIOR, THE HEALER, AND
THE BONDAGE BREAKER.
Galatians 5:1 It is for freedom that Christ has
set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let
yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of
slavery.
Remember this vitally important fact: freedom
happens inside a relationship with Jesus. We
depend on the power, authority and forgiveness
which flows from Him—not this tool or your
Encourager. Throughout this process, you will
be instructed often to go to Jesus, give Him your
pain and brokenness, and receive His blessings
and truth.
Ephesians 6:10-11 Be strong in the Lord and
11
in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of
God so that you can take your stand against
the devil’s schemes.
Satan is a liar, and the only way he can have
power over you is if you believe his lies.
John 8:44b He was a murderer from the
beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is
no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his
native language, for he is a liar and the father
of lies.
Let the Holy Spirit call the shots.
Pre-Session Packet (p. 2)
Hearing God’s Voice
During this process you will partner with the Holy
Spirit in receiving Godly blessings, revealed
truth, counsel and direction.
Matthew 13:11, 16 The knowledge of the
secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been
given to you
. . . blessed are your eyes
because they see, and your ears because
they hear.
John 10:27 My sheep listen to my voice; I
know them, and they follow me.
If you feel inexperienced in hearing God’s voice
and accurately discerning His will, this process
will give you valuable experience in doing both.
In their book, How to Hear God’s Voice, Mark
and Patti Virkler describe the following as
qualities that characterize God’s thoughts
interjecting your heart:
 God’s thoughts are often spontaneous, rather
than cognitive or analytical; which means we
move from living solely out of the use of our
reason to living intuitively or spontaneously.
 God’s thoughts are expressed through our
personalities and style of speech.
 God’s thoughts come easily as God speaking
in the first person.
 God’s thoughts are often light and gentle, and
easily cut off by any exertion of self (our own
thoughts, will, etc.)
 God’s thoughts will be wiser, more healing,
more loving and more motive-oriented than
your thoughts.
 God’s thoughts may cause a special reaction
within you, such as a sense of excitement,
conviction, faith, life, awe, or peace.
 God’s thoughts, when embraced, carry with
them a fullness of strength to perform them, as
well as a joy in doing so.
Some people hear from God through words.
Some see pictures, objects, colors, etc. Others
sense or feel impressions. Keep in mind that
God’s first language is not English or Hebrew.
Language is not His main way of communicating
with us. So feel free to receive revelation from
God by hearing, seeing or sensing.
Remember:
1. God is communicating to you all the time,
and you are receiving His interjected
thoughts. Until you begin distinguishing them
from your own, you are simply grouping them
all together and assuming they are yours.
2. When asking God to reveal Himself to
you, relax! God wants to talk with you as
much as you want to hear from Him.
3. Be open to receiving divine revelation in
many different ways: a thought, a mental
picture, a Scripture verse, a song lyric, an
impression, a feeling, etc.
4. Whatever you receive, share it with your
Encourager. If you hold onto it too long, you
risk analyzing it, rationalizing it, and bringing
your own particular understanding to it. Even
if it makes no logical sense, share what you
have received with your Encourager, who can
then help you line the revelation up with the
character of Christ and the Word of God.
Together, you, your Encourager, and the Holy
Spirit, can better receive and understand what
God is revealing to you.
Focusing on Forgiveness
Forgiveness is one of the most powerful, yet
most misunderstood healing disciplines in
the Church today. As you begin to focus on
forgiveness, consider more precisely how to
align yourself with the heart and mind of God on
this issue:
Ephesians 4:31-32 Get rid of all bitterness,
rage and anger, brawling and slander, along
with every form of malice. Be kind and
compassionate to one another, forgiving each
other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
1) Forgiveness should not be confused with
forgetting. Not even God forgets your sin; He
simply chooses to “remember it no more.”
Hebrews 8:12 For I will forgive their wickedness
and will remember their sins no more.
2) Forgiveness is your choice, a decision of
your will. Sometimes people say “I just can’t
forgive them for what they did;” but in reality it is
not that they can’t forgive, they won’t forgive.
Forgiveness seems to go against your sense of
what is right and fair. So you hold on to your
anger, punishing people over and over in your
mind for the pain they’ve caused you. But you
are told by God never to take your own revenge.
Romans 12:19 Do not take revenge, my friends,
but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written:
“It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.
3) Forgiveness is letting the other person
off your hook, but they are not off God’s
hook. Let God deal with the person. As long as
you refuse to forgive someone, you are still
hooked to them. Trust that God will deal with the
person justly and fairly, something you simply
cannot do. You can’t change the past, but when
Pre-Session Packet (p. 3)
you let go of your anger and hatred you can be
free from it.
4) You forgive others for your sake so you
can be free. Forgiveness is mainly a matter of
obedience to God. God wants you to be free:
there is no other way.
2 Corinthians 2:10-11 If you forgive anyone, I
also forgive him. And what I have forgiven—if
there was anything to forgive—I have forgiven
11
in the sight of Christ for your sake, in order
that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not
unaware of his schemes.
5) You
may
suffer
the
temporary
consequences of other people’s sins. That is
simply a harsh reality of life all of us have to
face. The only choice you have is whether you
will do so in the bondage of bitterness or in the
freedom of forgiveness.
6) You don’t wait for others to ask for
forgiveness before forgiving them. They may
never do so. Remember, Jesus did not wait for
those who were crucifying Him to apologize
before He forgave them. Even while they
mocked and jeered at Him, He prayed, “Father,
forgive them; for they do not know what they are
doing” (Luke 23:34).
7) Forgiveness must come from your heart:
allowing God to bring to the surface the
painful emotions you feel toward those who
have hurt you. If your forgiveness doesn’t touch
the emotional core of your life, it will be
incomplete. Too often we’re afraid of the pain so
we bury our emotions deep down inside us. Let
God bring them to the surface so He can begin
to heal those damaged emotions.
8) Forgiveness is choosing not to hold
someone’s sin against him or her anymore. It
is common for bitter people to bring up past
issues with those who have hurt them. They
want them to feel bad; but you must let go of the
past and choose to reject any thought of
revenge. This doesn’t mean you must continue
to put up with the future sins of others. God does
not tolerate sin, and neither should you. Don’t
allow continual abuse by others. Take a stand
against sin, while continuing to exercise grace
and forgiveness. You may need help in setting
wise limits and boundaries to protect yourself
from further abuse.
9) Forgiveness requires you to have mercy
on those who owe you, and cancel all debts.
Just as your heavenly Father has mercy on you
and cancels your debts, He commands that you
do for others what He has done for you. You
must cancel the debts built up from unmet
expectations, and from painful and offensive
words and actions. (Note: Matthew 18:21-35 The Parable of the Unmerciful Servant.)
10) You don’t wait to forgive until you feel
like forgiving. You will never get there. You
must make the hard choice to forgive even if you
don’t feel like it. Once you choose to forgive,
God’s healing touch will be free to move, and
Satan will have lost his power over you in that
area. Freedom is what you will gain right now,
not necessarily an immediate change in feelings.
A final word of instruction:
Focus on forgiving people for what they
did—observed behavior; for example: “I
forgive him for criticizing me in front of the
family.” Resist judging their character—what
kind of person you think they are; for example: “I
forgive him for being an insensitive jerk!”
Remember, how you forgive others is how God
will forgive you.
Matthew 6:14-15 For if you forgive men when
they sin against you, your heavenly Father will
15
also forgive you.
But if you do not forgive
men their sins, your Father will not forgive
your sins.
Prayer of Forgiveness
Lord, I choose to forgive (name of person)
for (say what they did to hurt you)
even though it made me feel (share the
painful feelings).
When you are finished forgiving that person for
all the offenses that come to your mind, and
after you have honestly expressed how you felt,
conclude with the following:
Lord, I choose not to hold any of these
things against (name) any longer. I choose
to cancel all debts owed me. I thank You
for setting me free from the bondage of my
bitterness toward (name). I now ask You to
bless (name), in the name of Jesus, amen.
