CLOSER TO HIM MINISTRIES
Come close to God and He will come close to you . -James 4:8 Amplified
“INQUIRE AND REQUIRE” -a word from Gary
This year during my personal devoted and study time, I have been reading the
Amplified Bible. The word “amplified” means “to expand, to make greater or
enlarge, to increase”. Recently as I was reading the Book of Isaiah, this verse became alive in my spirit so I have asked the Lord to make this message bigger and
more meaningful from my heart to yours.
Isaiah 55:6—Seek, inquire for, and require the Lord while He may be found
[claiming Him by necessity and by right]; call upon Him while He is near.
Many Christians today are seeking the Lord, searching to live deeper in His presence and to really know His will. The word “inquire” means, “to ask questions, to
request, to find out, to make inquiries of”.
Oftentimes we get into a “daily routine” of doing things without inquiring
(asking) Holy Spirit if this is exactly what He wants and the method He wants us to
utilize! Several times we read in the Old Testament, “And David inquired of the
Lord”. If King David asked the Lord “how to” in the midst of his many military battles, how much more frequently must you and I do the same?
Another part of this verse that truly opened my heart was: {claiming Him by
necessity and by right}. Is searching for the Lord a necessity in your life, OR just
another “good option”? Is HE absolutely essential, a requisite, a mandate in your
life? David cried out in Ps. 105:4 AMP “Seek, inquire of and for the Lord, and crave
Him and His strength (His might and inflexibility to temptation); seek and require
His face and His presence [continually] evermore”. Jer. 29:14 “I will be found by
you, says the Lord…” this will be the result of your diligent searching after HIM!
The apostle Paul was thrown to the ground by the Lord as recorded in Acts 9
and he immediately asked the Lord two questions. Acts 9:5...”Who are You,
Lord”? and Acts 9:6, "Lord, what do you want me to do?" I believe each of us
should ask the Lord these two questions every day! After his radical conversion, Paul
spent his entire lifetime “seeking answers to know HIM”. Phil
3:10 That I may know Him and the power of His resurrection …
Phil 3:9 ”…..Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord………. that I
may gain Christ”. These are desperate cries from a desperate
man! I pray that each of us would
inquire and ask the Lord for the
“fire of desire” to seek after and
search for our soon-coming King.
The second question Paul inquired
of the Lord was his “individual king-

dom assignment” be plainly shown to him. The message the Lord is teaching us here is key—
“relationship precedes ministry”.
The Lord voices His great desire for more
seeking and searching through the prophet Jeremiah.
Jer. 29:13 AMP “Then you will seek Me, inquire for,
and require Me [as a vital necessity] and find Me
when you search for Me with all your heart”. God also
spoke to Solomon giving him a key scripture for true
revival. 2 Chron 7:14 AMP “If My people, who are
called by My name, shall humble themselves, pray, seek, crave, and require of
necessity My face and turn from their wicked ways …” I believe this same cry
must continue to become a rhema word to us. O God, come down from your heavenly
place and saturate us with Yourself!
As we press toward the mark of His high calling in these “perilous times”, let’s
continue to search for Him, inquiring for and requiring the person, the Lord Jesus
Christ! The results of your “INQUIRING AND REQUIRING”? You will develop a
deeper and lasting relationship with your King; He will give you the desires of your
heart; He will teach you and instruct you with His eye on you; and you will experience
His unlimited supply of His unlimited love and grace. Inquire and require!

-Charles Spurgeon
"Experience is a hard teacher because she
gives the test first, the lesson afterward. But

"Wise leaders should have known that
the human heart cannot exist in a vacuum. If Christians are forbidden to enjoy the wine of the Spirit they will turn
to the wine of the flesh....Christ died
for our hearts and the Holy Spirit
wants to come and satisfy them." —

go to church and sing them".

“A LIFE OF FERVENCY” -a word from Pat
Our greatest example of a life of fervency is our Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus was fervent to the very end as He told His disciples in Luke 22:1, “With
fervent desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.
The word “fervent” means, “eagerness, ardor, animated zeal; warmth of
devotion” and also means “to be boiling, hot, passionate, and glowing”.
Let’s look at what the Word of God says about fervent….
FERVENT IN SPIRIT…. “Not lagging behind in diligence, fervent in spirit,
serving the Lord.” Romans12:11. We read in Acts 18:25 This man (Apollos)
had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he
was speaking and teaching accurately the things concerning Jesus. “Fervent in spirit” means, “living
fervor, fiery hot, full of burning zeal. It is the opposite of dignified, cold, and unemotional. In a Christian context it signifies a high spiritual temperature; inflamed by the Holy Spirit.” Apollos was a complete man, articulate in the Scripture, and full of spiritual fervency.
FERVENT IN PRAYER….James 5:16 The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. It
is interesting to see how large a portion of Scripture is occupied with the subject of prayer. I believe
we are missing out on the power and help that is available to the body of Christ because of a lack of
fervent prayer concerning our brothers and sisters.
"If you are strangers to prayer you are strangers to power." -Billy Sunday
We are instructed to pray for one another as James 5:16 exhorts us to,…..“pray for one another”.
Acts 12:5 “So Peter was kept in the prison, but prayer for him was being made fervently by the
church to God”. Paul was constantly praying for the churches and asking for prayer. 2 Tim 1:3 …I
constantly remember you in my prayers night and day. Col 1:9…we have not ceased to pray for you.
Eph 6:19 …and pray on my behalf, that utterance may be given to me in the opening of my mouth, to
make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel. Phil 1:19 For I know that this shall turn out for
my deliverance through your prayers…
Paul informed the church at Corinth of his afflictions and those of his fellow servants in Asia and
said we “despaired even of life” but recognized the importance of people praying for them. 2 Cor
1:11 …you also joining in helping us through your prayers, that thanks may be given by many persons for the favor bestowed upon us through the prayers of many. Rom 15:30-31 Now I urge you,
brethren, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to strive together with me in your
prayers to God for me, that I may be delivered from those who are disobedient in Judea, and that my service for Jerusalem may prove acceptable to
the saints.
FERVENT IN LOVE…1 Peter 4:8 Above all, keep fervent in your love for
one another, because love covers a multitude of sins. Matt 24:12 "And
because lawlessness is increased, most people's love will grow cold.
God’s Word in 2 Timothy 3:3 tells us that in the last days that people will
be unloving.
Charles Spurgeon said, “You shall love your neighbor---but perhaps you
say, “I cannot love my neighbor because no matter what I do for them they
respond with ingratitude and contempt. This is all the more reason for the
heroism of love.”
To be fervent in our love for one another, we must first be fervent in our love for the Lord. David cried
out in Psalms18:1 AMP - I love you fervently and devotedly, O Lord, my Strength. We cannot will
ourselves to be fervent because it’s a work of Holy Spirit. Let the cry of our hearts be, O God, touch
our hearts once again so we might be fervent in spirit, in prayer and in love!
Psalms 46:10 Amp.
