One Act Play

2-4
High School Theatre Department
A rebellious high school student named Alice must respond
to the sudden and shattering death of her older brother,
the class valedictorian, who was shot while robbing a
convenience store. Teased by a chorus of students that nearly
ostracize her, challenged by a critical but concerned teacher, and
up against an unyielding principal, she must find her own way
through a personal and classical tragedy. In honoring her brother,
she’ll probably break some rules. Which is more important?

The House of Bernarda Alba
by Federico Garcia-Lorca
High School Theatre Department
This masterpiece of the modern theatre
was written in 1936, just before the start
of the Spanish Civil War. The play takes
place in a small village in southern Spain
following the funeral of Bernanrda Alba’s
second husband. Obsessed with the
family honor, Bernarda rules the household with an iron fist, but her five
daughters harbor a passion for the
handsomest man in the village, Pepe el
Romano. When the truth finally breaks
through the atmosphere of suppressed
desire, jealously, anger, and fear, the
consequences are tragic.

I Never Saw Another Butterfly
by Celeste Raspanti
Middle School Theatre Department – Level III
Over 15,000 Jewish children passed through the Nazi
concentration camp of Terezin. About a hundred of
these children were still alive when Terezin was
liberated at the end of WWII. Raja lived through it
all at Terezin, teaching the children when there was
nothing to teach with, helping to give them hope
when there was little reason for hope. This is her
story. It is history as much as any play can be history,
showing the best and the worst of which the human
heart is capable.
