November 1, 2016 MAS Main Stage 7:00 PM Governing Alice One Act Play NOV 2-4 High School Theatre Department A rebellious high school student named Alice must respond to the sudden and shattering death of her older brother, the class valedictorian, who was shot while robbing a convenience store. Teased by a chorus of students that nearly ostracize her, challenged by a critical but concerned teacher, and up against an unyielding principal, she must find her own way through a personal and classical tragedy. In honoring her brother, she’ll probably break some rules. Which is more important? Sights and Sounds of the “60’s” All of our Magnet Studios come together in a pageantry of music, dance, and song as we present a nostalgic musical review of the most creative and turbulent decade in American History. January 17-19, 2017 Black Box Theatre 7:00 PM This Old Couch Middle School Theatre Department – Level III Through its journey from a sofa into a couch, an average piece of furniture serves as the main character and a silent witness in this most poignant story of ‘the circle of life’. Original script written and directed by MAS High School Theatre Students. February 23, 2017 MAS Main Stage 7:00 PM 6 FEB 27MAR 2 The House of Bernarda Alba by Federico Garcia-Lorca High School Theatre Department This masterpiece of the modern theatre was written in 1936, just before the start of the Spanish Civil War. The play takes place in a small village in southern Spain following the funeral of Bernanrda Alba’s second husband. Obsessed with the family honor, Bernarda rules the household with an iron fist, but her five daughters harbor a passion for the handsomest man in the village, Pepe el Romano. When the truth finally breaks through the atmosphere of suppressed desire, jealously, anger, and fear, the consequences are tragic. February 27- March 2, 2017 Black Box Theatre 7:00 PM 7 MAR/ APR I Never Saw Another Butterfly by Celeste Raspanti Middle School Theatre Department – Level III Over 15,000 Jewish children passed through the Nazi concentration camp of Terezin. About a hundred of these children were still alive when Terezin was liberated at the end of WWII. Raja lived through it all at Terezin, teaching the children when there was nothing to teach with, helping to give them hope when there was little reason for hope. This is her story. It is history as much as any play can be history, showing the best and the worst of which the human heart is capable. March 13-16, 2017 Black Box Theatre 7:00 PM Student Showcase Middle School Theatre Department – Level II This amazingly creative showcase is the culmination of a year’s journey in playwriting. The students will present original pieces they wrote throughout the school year. These pieces will bring laughter and even some tears. With fresh voices, they present with their hearts important messages that will teach us all. April 24-27, 2017 Black Box Theatre 7:00 PM 8 MAY Frontwomen of Broadway High School Musical Theatre Department This show is inspired by the front women of Broadway, making these songs some sought after roles for actresses. Offering an inspiring message about the strength of women, especially to some who have overcome adversity. They have one common theme, girl power! May 18, 2017 MAS Main Stage 7:00 PM A Little Bit of This, A Little Bit of That…and Mucho MAS! Middle School Theatre Department – Level III As the title suggests, this student showcase consists of a variety of theatre pieces previously presented at the Jr. Thespian’s District and State Festival; from comedy to musical theatre to drama, every one of them unique and spectacular. Every number is a winner, every student a star! May 24-25, 2017 MAS Main Stage 7:00 PM 5th Annual Film Festival The MAS Annual Film Festival is an event dedicated to showcasing the Broadcasting students’ cinematic talents. It boasts a wide array of different genres as well as different skill levels. Some students may tackle an atmospheric horror film while others may exercise their passion for animation. Needless to say, there is plenty to expect from this year’s showcase.
