1st Annual Food Matters conference & 47th Annual CSNM AGM & conference Dwell in Possibility Friday April 27 & Saturday 28, 2012 Bernard Snell Hall, University of Alberta Hospital 8440 -112 Street, Edmonton AB Alberta Health Services-Nutrition & Food Services In collaboration with The Canadian Society of Nutrition Management Register by March 23 to take advantage of our early-bird rates Corporate Message Welcome to the first Alberta Health Services Food Matters conference: Dwell in Possibility. The AHS Nutrition and Food Services planning team has done great work organizing this conference on behalf of you. They’ve ensured there’s a wide range of topics that will help all of us build on the future of nutrition in health care. Here at Alberta Health Services, one of our top priorities is helping Albertans live longer and enjoy a high quality of life. Healthy eating through good nutrition is key to this. Through the topics covered at this conference and speakers who are presenting, opportunities abound as to how we can find new and innovative ways to achieve this priority, here in Alberta and all across Canada. This year, we’re extremely pleased to have the opportunity to extend this conference to our health care partners all across Canada. We’d especially like to thank the Canadian Society for Nutrition Management for their partnership in this conference. We hope that what each and every one of you learn here will stimulate new ideas and allow you to dwell in possibility in your own areas of practice across Canada. Dr. Chris Eagle President & Chief Executive Officer Alberta Health Services 2. Chris Mazurkewich Executive Vice President & Chief Financial Officer Alberta Health Services CSNM President’s Welcome Message from the Conference Chair It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the Food Matters conference. This year, our 47th annual Canadian Society for Nutrition Management AGM and conference, we are pleased to partner with Alberta Health Services. There are two days of informative presentations, networking opportunities and a supplier trade show. Conferences are always a great opportunity to stimulate ideas and learn new things. CSNM members are front line managers, constantly evolving and searching for what Dean Cox, CNM is possible. This CSNM President year’s theme, Dwell in Possibility, will give you a chance to think of “what can be” and “where we want to be”. Presentations will cover a wide range of topics and interests, so there will be something for everyone. My favourite part of the conference is networking; this is a great chance to meet your peers from across the country and share ideas. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at AHS and CSNM who were instrumental in planning this event. Wishing you a successful and enjoyable conference. In considering a theme for the 2012 conference, one word stood out above all— transformation! Transformation is the way of our world. We are working in reformed organizations and using different tools for these tasks. New research affects the content of diet counseling—and even how it is done. To make best use of transformations, we need to Dwell in Possibility. The latest research brings possibilities for those working with celiac disease, food insecurity, lactation, infant feeding and malnourished elderly. What possibilities are there to keep flavour while reducing sodium and can you possibly teach cooking from your desk? Dwell in Possibility with behaviour change: Mary Anne Yurkiw counseling, Conference Chair accepting Alberta Health Services challenges, changing culture and keeping your sense of humour through it all. And can we be known for our delicious food? Of course, our exhibit hall and our catering program will help you put the theory into action. Come to Edmonton April 27 and 28, 2012 to experience how you can Dwell in Possibility! 3.
