red24 Global Kidnapping Threat Map 2017 KKidnap for ransom and extortion (KRE) remains a credible security threat in numerous areas of the world in 2017. This map delineates the overall kidnapping threat level by country; and in line with red24’s client focus, an elevated threat to foreign recreational and business travellers, business interests, and NGO and media personnel has been used as the primary criterion in its compilation. In light of KRE data sourcing challenges; open-source, privileged and anecdotal information, together with available information pertaining to kidnapping rates, threat types and incident dynamics, have been used in this assessment. Furthermore, additional security concerns which hold the potential to contribute to KRE threat levels, such as crime, terrorism, economic conditions, and corruption and/or weak law enforcement, have also been taken into account.
