contenttoyou.Asalways,weencourageeveryone
toconsidervolunteeringbyjoiningourboard,
assistingononeofourcommitteesorotherwise
providingfeedback.Ithinkithasbeen
demonstratedconsistentlythatthemoreinvolved
anindividualisintheirchapter,thegreaterarethe
rewardsofmembership.
IamlookingforwardtoanexceptionalyearwithFEI
andconnectingwithyouthroughouttheyear.

perspective.Ourgoalistoprovideessentialand
criticalcontentbalancedwiththesocialand
networkingopportunitiesthatcreateoverallvalue
forourmembership.Wewelcomeandappreciate
allyourfeedbackandsupportwhichhelpsour
boardtoensurethatyourmembershipexperience
meetswithyourexpectations.
Nextyear’sannualconferencewillbeheldin
Whistlerandweasachapterhaveatremendous
opportunitytotakepartinanexceptionalvarietyof
programmingwithtopnotchspeakers,interactwith
otherchaptersandexpandourlocalmembership
base.IencourageallofyoutosavethedateJune
14-16,2017forthisyear’sconference.Additionally,
theconferenceprovidesagreatopportunityforour
chaptertoexpanditsmembershipbasewithallnew
membersthisyearreceivingacomplimentary
attendancetoconference,anapproximate$1,400
value.Weencourageallmemberstoreachoutto
theirpeerswhowouldbenefitfrommembership
andinvitethemtoaneventwherewecanoutline
theFEICanadavalueproposition.

newmembers,whohavejoineduprecently!It’s
beenagreatstarttoanewyearbeginningin
SeptemberwithawidearrayofVancouverChapter
eventsandawholehostofnewFEICanada
membersjoiningup.
TheFEICanadaVancouverChaptermembership
currentlystandsat192members,whileourFEI
Canadamembershipstandsat1,524membersasat
October31,2016.Areviewofmember
demographicsshowsthatthelargestagegroup
amongcurrentmembershipisthe50–59agegroup
at31.9%andthelowestisthe30to39agegroupat
5.7%.Therearehugechallengesandopportunities
forustoincreaseourmembershipamongtheGenX
andespeciallytheGenYseniorfinance
professionals.AtarecentFEIMembership&
MarketingCommitteemeeting,therewasalotof
discussionaboutreducingtheaveragememberage
of57.3-yearmarkandincorporatinganumberof
newinitiativestoattractyoungermembers.There
arealsoplanstoensurethatweachievegreater
membershipretentionamongourcurrent
members.

withthemretiringasEVP&CFOthispast
summer.Healsospentthreeyearsasthenational
CFOofVONCanada,anationalhealthcareNPO&
charitybetween2001and2004.Hehasspent
significanttimeonvolunteerboardsrangingfrom
UnitedWay,Children’sAidandalargeschoolbased
daycareorganizationknownasPLASP.Herecently

AkeybenefitofFEICanadamembershipisthe

Thechapterboardrecentlyapprovedaninitiativeto
supportandencouragenetworkingamong
membersintransitionandtheothercategories
mentionedabove.
Thewayinwhichthiswillbedonewilldependon
theinterestandpreferencesoftheparticipants.It
wouldprobablybeginwithameetingatwhich
memberswhohavebeenthroughcareer
transitions-—includingperiodsofcontractwork—
wouldsharetheirexperiences,followedbya
discussionofopportunitiesfordevelopingand
participatinginaprofessionalsupportnetwork.
Ihavehadpersonalexperienceofanearlier
initiativeofthiskindandcanstronglyrecommend
it.
