In the Classroom
October: Listens Attentively, Follows Directions, Stays on Task
Week of October 5-9: Stays on Task book “The Dream Jar” with corresponding Dream Jar “What
I want to be when I grow up” Activity
Week of October 12-14: Short week…Let’s Talk! Need for me to do something specific with your
class?? If not, the lesson is “Counselor’s Choice”!!

Week of October 20-23: Listens Attentively book “Howard B Wigglebottom Learns to Listen”
with corresponding Listening Ears Activity
Week of October 26-30: Follows Directions and Stays on Task book “The Bee Tree” with
corresponding Simon Says Game

Family Connections
The school-wide Personal and Social Responsibility focus for the month of October is
“Listens Attentively, Follows Direction, and Stays on Task”
“Children have never been very good at listening to their elders, but they have never failed to
imitate them.” ~ James A. Baldwin
What does “active listening” look like? How many directions can you follow at once before you
forget what comes next? Do you finish every project you start, even when it is difficult?
“How-To” get to eat LUNCH with Mrs. Lasiter-Read
Mondays: Personal Lunch with Mrs. Lasiter-Read (20 minutes):
*parent and/or teacher request (with parent permission)
*just once, once a month, or twice a month = depending on need
*students will receive an invitation from Mrs. Lasiter-Read through the classroom teacher
*Grades K-2 Mrs. Lasiter-Read will meet student in the lunch room, Grades 3-5 students are
expected to remember and advocate getting to the front of the line for hot lunch
Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays: Various Lunch Bunch Groups (20 Minutes):
*parent and/or teacher request (with parent permission)
*groups of 6 students meet once a week and groups last 6-8 weeks
*students will receive an invitation from Mrs. Lasiter-Read through the classroom teacher
*lists are in the cafeteria for staff information
*students are expected to advocate getting to the front of the line for hot lunch
*All lunches are in Mrs. Lasiter-Read’s Office**All lunches are cancelled if Mrs. Lasiter-Read is absent*
