Computing and ICT
History Topic: The Tudors
Children will be learning about the Tudors with a focus on
the life and wives of Henry VIII and how these events
changed the monarchy and religion in our country. We will f
out why Henry VIII had so many wives and what happened
to them…

Geography Topic: Map Skills

- We will be using IT to develop our wordprocessing skills, combining text and graphics

Literacy
Writing Our first unit will be looking at Poetry and different poem
structures and styles, where the children will explore examples from
Cinquains, list poems, shape poems or acrostics.
Narrative- Children will develop their story writing through learning and
writing Stories with Imaginary Settings linked to the main text ‘Leon and
the Place Between’– working on developing use of descriptive language
including expanding noun phrases, and using adverbial phrases,
Non-Fiction - Children will look at Recounts including Newspaper reports –
developing the use of non-fiction, report features and language. Children
will write their own recounts and newspaper reports linked to our History
Tudors Topic. This unit’s writing will also link to science work.
In our ‘Traditional Tales unit we will develop our narrative writing skills
based on a learnt text fairy tale/traditional story which we will adapt.
Reading will be linked to these literacy units within lessons and through
guided reading sessions.
Spelling (including phonics revision), and handwriting will also be taught
each week.
Year 3 and Year 4
Science
Magnets and Forces Children will learn about push and
pull forces, about magnets –their poles, forces of attraction
and repulsion. We will find out which materials are magnetic
and about how magnets work and what they are made of. We
will investigate and test how strong different magnets are.
Sound In our Sound topic, children will learn how Sound
travels and moves and how we hear sounds,
‘Working Scientifically’ Investigation work will focus on
Enquiry and Planning investigations – developing our skills at
finding and thinking of scientific questions and planning how
to test and answer these including using fair tests.

Numeracy will follow these four units:
Multiplicative Reasoning
Number Sense
Additive Reasoning
Geometric Reasoning
We will be building on previous learning, continuing to develop
problem solving skills and applying and using more formal
written methods for calculations.
Art and DT
-Children will use a range of media to create
pictures and paintings.
-Children will do art work linked to our
‘Tudors’ topic work including work on
portraits.
- DT projects will link to Science and topics
PE – Games and Swimming
Homework Children will be encouraged to take reading books
- ‘Outdoor PE’ - we will be doing ‘Invasion Games’
home every day (We expect each child to read 3 times a week
as a minimum) - Literacy spellings and sentence tasks will be
sent once a week in your child’s homework book and new
Spelling Book.
- Numeracy and other homework tasks will be sent out by your
class teacher when required -including a project linked to our
topic on The Tudors
developing skills linked to netball and football.
- Swimming will continue on Friday afternoons with each
class swimming every three weeks
- ‘Hall-based PE’ – this will look at gymnastic skills,
movements and sequences, multi-sport skills and Dance –
linked to our Tudors topic work
Numeracy
PSHE, French and RE
PSHE – This term is all about new beginnings and
friendship. PSHE will also link to our e-safety
learning
French - we will continue to develop basic
conversation and vocabulary through simple themes
RE - This term’s topic is ‘Worship, Pilgrimage and
Sacred Places. We will also look at festivals and
celebrations at Christmas .
