reetings from the Club! It is a significant time for all of us at
ONE°15. On 24 September, we celebrate another milestone, our
9th anniversary. It has been an excellent nine years for us. As we
celebrate this special occasion and look back on all our great times, we
themed this special issue “Celebration”. Join us on a walk down memory
lane, discover the people that make our Club a wonderful one and keep
up with the latest news at ONE°15.
MARINA NEWS & HAPPENINGS
Our marina has been busy recently, with some of the world’s largest
yachts berthed here. On page 16, we chat with Captain Nick Baldwin of
sailing yacht Beagle Star V that is docked here till 16 September. And on
page 20, we catch up with Members Julian and Lisa Theng, owners of
catamaran Eagle Wings.
Our marina also hosts over 35 yachts from our chartering arm, ONE15
Luxury Yachting. Recently, we held Festival De Nautique, an open boat
showcase. ONE°15 Members, affiliate club members and guests were
invited to tour the yachts and discover chartering possibilities. I trust that
it was a fun and fruitful day for everyone. Read more about it on page 24.
OUR 9 TH ANNIVERSARY
Looking back, ONE°15 has definitely come a long way since our
beginnings. Today, we have cemented our reputation as Asia’s best
marina. Our eco-initiatives have garnered acknowledgement from some
of the region’s most-recognised environmental agencies. The yachting
industry in Asia is growing steadily, with ONE°15 playing a major role. In the
spirit of the occasion, we reminisce some of our recent accomplishments
on page 12. Don’t forget to make a note to celebrate with us at our
anniversary bash happening on 24 September. The revelling continues
on to 25 September, as our popular Pool Party returns for another edition.
More details on these events can be found on pages 28 and 29.
NEW GENER AL MANAGER
I would also like to take this time to introduce the Club’s new General
Manager, Teo Joo Leng. Joo Leng has close to 16 years experience in the
hospitality industry. I am certain that Joo Leng’s vast experience and
extensive knowledge will take ONE°15 to greater heights. Please join me
in welcoming Joo Leng to the team.

We displayed continued commitment to the

“Fish Friendly Marina” programme was developed
by the New South Wales Department of Primary

QUESTIONS WITH
CAPTAIN NICK BALDWIN
Beagle Star V sailed into ONE°15
Marina on 19 July and was
welcomed by Marina Manager,
Rudy Puystjens. While the
superyacht is berthed here,
Longitude takes the chance
to chat with its captain,
Nick Baldwin.
How did you get your start in the
yachting industry?
I’ve always had a passion for sailing. When my
siblings and I were young, we went to sailing
schools and spent our summers sailing. But I never
really did anything with that passion, aside from
helping out with mechanical or plumbing works
on board. When I was in my twenties, I realised
I had a job I didn’t actually like. So I saved up
and went to a sailing academy in England to get
qualified. After that six-month course, I flew to the
Mediterranean in the south of France and started
knocking on doors to ask if anyone needed any day
jobs done on their boat. With a little bit of luck, I got
my first job as a deck hand. Eventually I got a job as
an engineer on board an 80ft yacht called Coconut.
From there, I worked my way up to become captain
and after eight years, I left Coconut and now
I’m here as captain of Beagle Star V.

LONGITUDE
What do you love about your job
and what makes Beagle Star V a joy
to captain?
As captain, I enjoy the challenge of navigating
around the world and taking the yacht from one
location to another. My wife Zinta is the chef on
board, so we get to experience everything together.
This yacht is very well designed, so it’s a pleasure
to sail.
More importantly, the crew and I enjoy a really great
relationship with the owner. We’re not treated as staff,
but rather like family. Beagle Star V is a sailing yacht, so
it allows me to put my skills to the test, as opposed
to just driving a powerboat. Sailing yachts also have
a more relaxed feel about them. At the end of the
day, we set up a barbecue on the aft deck. We cook
with a beer in hand and chat away with the owner
and his family.
How has the experience of docking at
ONE°15 Marina been so far?
Fantastic! We always come back to ONE°15. It’s
already our fourth or fifth time here. It’s a well-located
marina. The Western Quarantine and Immigration
Anchorage is located by Sisters’ Islands, which
is just a quick motor across from ONE°15. Other than
that, it’s well-protected, the environment is clean and
it has great facilities. We’re also close by to the bars
and restaurants that surround the marina.
What are your thoughts on Singapore
as a sailing destination?
Singapore is a really good destination for
maintenance and repair works. You can get any
mechanical or electrical work done here. It’s located
almost at the centre of Asia, so it’s a great base to
get to other parts of the continent like Langkawi,
the Andaman Islands and Raja Ampat. The Owner
is a big fan of diving in Raja Ampat, so we always
come back here after a trip to get some servicing
done on the yacht. Plus, Singapore is such an
exciting city with lots happening all the time,
so the crew loves being here!

F&B SENIOR CAPTAIN CHERRY SUN THRIVES ON
MAKING GUESTS HAPPY. THE STAR EMPLOYEE CHATS
WITH LONGITUDE ABOUT HER EXPERIENCE AT ONE°15.
L: LONGITUDE
C: SENIOR CAPTAIN CHERRY SUN
L: Hi Cherry! You’ve been with ONE°15 for 7 years and
7 months now. How did this journey first begin?
C: One of my favourite hobbies is travelling. I really enjoy
learning about different cultures, so I made the decision
to work overseas. I decided on Singapore as I heard many
good things about the country. One thing led to another
and somehow I ended up here, and I’ve fallen in love with
the Club ever since! I love the scenic and calming view
of the marina.
L: What are your job responsibilities and what is a
typical day at work like for you?
C: Besides the daily task of serving and attending to guests,
I am now tasked to manage the team. Although it’s a much
bigger responsibility, I am enjoying this new task. I like picking
up new skills and I see it as a good way to upgrade myself.
L: What do you love about your job and working at
ONE°15?
C: There is always something happening at the Club, whether
it’s a big event or a small party, which makes the atmosphere
very exciting. I have some very lovely colleagues as well.
We have a strong sense of team spirit, which pushes me
to deliver my best every day.
L: What motivates you to go the extra mile for
your guests?
C: It’s a great feeling to see guests leave the restaurant smiling
after a meal. Sometimes all it takes to make their day is to
just greet them with a smile. A smile can change a person’s
mood, that’s why I’m always smiling!
L: You recently won Sentosa’s Quarterly Service STAR
Award and the Sentosa CEO STAR Award for your
quality of service to guests. How did you feel?
C: I was rather surprised when I learnt of the awards as my
fellow colleagues have been doing a great job as well.
The awards belong to all of us as without my colleagues,
I wouldn’t have been able to win.
L: What do you do when you’re not at work?
C: I am probably reading. I believe that reading is a good way
to gain more knowledge. Other than that, I travel a lot with
my close friends. Travelling offers a wealth of experiences
and that’s something that money can’t buy. My dream is to
work hard and retire early so that I can travel to every part
of the world by the time I’m 50!
L: Speaking of age, the Club is celebrating its 9th
anniversary. How do you think the Club has
grown over the years?
C: ONE°15 has experienced rapid growth despite being
relatively young. The ONE°15 brand has grown overseas
and we have also won prestigious awards. I am very proud
to be a part of the team.
L: Do you have any hopes for the Club for the
years ahead?
C: Yes! Currently, ONE°15 holds the title as Best Asian Marina.
I hope that one day, the Club will be named the best
marina in the world!

The world’s first Sunreef Supreme 68 catamaran, Eagle Wings, made its
premiere at this year’s Singapore Yacht Show. Owners Julian and Lisa Theng
show us around the yacht, where they hope the family – and everyone else –
can make indelible memories.

S E P – O C T 2016
I
t’s a little bit past 1pm when the siblings lead the Longitude
team down the marina towards their co-owned catamaran,
Eagle Wings. The warm afternoon sun is bearing down on us, but
Julian and Lisa remain unfazed. In fact, they love the sun and sea.
“We used to go fishing a lot when we were younger,” Julian shares
as Lisa chimes in, “He’s the real fisherman, I just tag along!”
“We had a weekend home near Pasir Ris beach and I used to go
fishing and watch all the boats pass by. Sometimes I couldn’t find
any catch from where I was, so I thought how nice it would be if
I could sail out on my own boat,” Julian further explains.
And now he can. After tagging along with Lisa to the 2015 Singapore
Yacht Show, Julian itched for his own boat. “But Lisa made me
promise not to buy one there and then,” Julian laughs. “Of course,
you have to recce first!” his sister insists.
Eagle Wings is booked for a charter later in the afternoon, but
the siblings managed to squeeze us in for a quick tour and chat.
“Have you seen the yacht?” Julian asks us excitedly as we walk
further along the marina. Eagle Wings is a 68ft multihull catamaran,
and incredibly hard to miss. In fact, we’re guilty of stopping to
stare sometimes. We climb aboard and the staff greets us with
a cool towel and a welcome drink. Eagle Wings sure doesn’t
compromise on hospitality – they even offer us their very own
special blend of coffee.
CLUB BUZZ
It’s an outstanding yacht, complete with floor-to-ceiling
windows, four cabins with en-suite bathrooms, a bar, a
spacious flybridge and even a lavish jacuzzi. But purchasing
such a large catamaran hadn’t always been the plan,
Julian confesses.
“After the yacht show, I began looking for a simple second hand
boat,” he recalls. “But when I contacted Sunreef, there was this
lady who asked if I would be interested in a new prototype that
would be a first in the world. I wasn’t very interested at first, but
when she started sending me pictures, I was sold.”
Opting for a much larger yacht worked out well. A familyoriented man, Julian could take the entire Theng family –
which includes his wife and three kids, Lisa, their parents and
two other brothers and their families – along on sailing trips.
But of course, a bigger boat came with a much higher price
tag. And with his packed schedule as an ophthalmologist, he
worried that he wouldn’t be able to make full use of it. Hence,
Lisa and Julian decided to share ownership of the yacht.
“One of the great things of owning a yacht is that we can cater
it to all our interests,” Lisa says. “For example, there’s a mahjong
table for our parents, sea sports equipment for the kids, fishing
rod holders for those who like to fish. We’re also a very musical
family hence the karaoke system and the piano in the saloon.”

“No matter how busy we get, family
is always a priority. Even when
our minds are at work, our hearts
are always with the kids, with our
parents, with our siblings and with
each other.” – J U L I A N T H E N G
Still, Lisa, a managing partner at a law firm, has an equally packed
schedule of her own. Eventually, they decided to offer Eagle Wings
for charter. “If we can’t be on the yacht all the time, it wouldn’t make
sense,” Julian says. “Although chartering does help to defray the costs,
more than that, it lets us share the experience with others, so they
can enjoy it too.”
The charter service has been going well, so much so that just very
recently, the siblings added another boat to their fleet. This time,
it’s a monohull powerboat that will also be available for charter.
“It’s smaller and faster, so it meets different needs. It could be great
for those who don’t need too many amenities and just want to go
fishing, for example,” Julian explains.
As we sit and chat with the siblings in Eagle Wings’ plush and
panoramic saloon, designed by Julian himself, we notice that the
two share a very special brother and sister bond, a bond that even
Julian admits sometimes feels “too good to be true.” With only a year
difference in age – Julian is 48 and Lisa, 49 – the two have always
been close.
“Lisa is a very balanced person,” Julian shares. “When she was
younger, she excelled in both studies and sports. Even though
she’s just a year older than me, I looked up to her. Today, she’s a
great aunt to my kids. And that really helps my wife and I to bring
them up well.”
Lisa returns the compliments, sharing that it’s Julian’s personable
character she admires most. “He is very generous and humble. You can
see it from the way he treats his patients. He really cares about them.
Being a doctor is a noble profession and he really lives up to it.”
Despite their clashing schedules, the two make it a priority to do
things with the whole family. In June, the Thengs embarked on a trip
to Nikoi Island, where they snorkelled and fished in the surrounding
waters and spent the night singing karaoke on board. Tioman Island
is next on their list.

When not at sea, the Club is one of their favourite places for family
get-togethers. “My wife and I really enjoy the relaxed atmosphere
here. When we first visited the Club, we realised we had been
missing out on such a beautiful place,” Julian says. “His daughter
celebrated her birthday here too,” Lisa adds. “Yes, we used the
function room for her 16th birthday. Then we spent the night
at the hotel. It was a really great celebration,” Julian reminisces.
“No matter how busy we get, family is always a priority. Even
when our minds are at work, our hearts are always with the
kids, with our parents, with our siblings and with each other,”
he continues, as Lisa agrees and smiles alongside her brother.

NATIONAL DAY

MAGIC SHOW
I
t was a fun-filled day for the whole family at the Club’s
National Day carnival held on 9 August. For some, it was
a nostalgic trip back in time – one of the highlights at this
year’s carnival was a favourite local activity, longkang fishing.
Guided by their parents and staff stationed at the booth,
kids excitedly scooped tiny fishes out from an inflatable pool.
The more the merrier, since kids were allowed to bring their
catch home as new pets. At the other booths, guests took
the opportunity to try their hand at other traditional games
like chapteh, got their faces painted with creative designs and
indulged in carnival snacks like popcorn and candyfloss.
LONGKANG FISHING
The fun was doubled over at the Infinity Pool, where a floating
inflatable had been set up. The inflatable, an obstacle course,
was a thrilling adventure for the little ones as they climbed,
clambered and manoeuvred their way across. The Magic Show
was also a hit amongst guests. The interactive show was highly
entertaining, giving members the chance to go up on stage to
help the magician complete some of his tricks.
Keeping spirits high, ONE°15’s mascots roved around the
Club’s premises to greet guests and hand out red and white
balloons. There were smiles all around as guests posed for
pictures as memorabilia of the day.

The showcase was an excellent opportunity for those looking to
charter a yacht. Guests were able to speak to the yacht charter
team to enquire about the fleet or go on a sea trial before
deciding to charter a yacht that fits their needs. Enticing more
guests to come on board, the yachts also served as venues for an
art exhibition by Goshen Art Gallery and a photography display by
Theme Photography. A bridal fashion showcase by Putri Mas and
White link, and a wedding decoration showcase by Sentimentals
were also held on board, giving soon to be brides and grooms
some inspiration for their big day.
Aside from yachts, the event also presented a host of activities
that kept guests entertained. Some got busy customising their
very own candle cups, leather bracelets and mini tees at the
various craft activity booths. Others dropped by the Club’s
Fitness Centre for a complimentary body analysis or tried their
hand at mini golf.
The evening concluded with a lucky draw, where winners
had their eye on the top prize, a yacht charter worth $3,500.
Congratulations to Fiona Carralho, the lucky winner

ONE°15 has made significant changes to the Club’s facilities to improve the experience of Members and
guests over the months. For one, the Constellation Ballrooms underwent a weeklong refurbishment and
now sports new carpeting, wall furniture and lighting. With a new colour palette of gold, brown, gray
and white, the ballrooms exude timeless elegance for the grandest weddings or business seminars, yet
retaining a touch of modernity for upbeat cocktail parties. In keeping with the marina theme, the new
lightings were designed to emanate the calming and soothing effect of ocean waves.
The adjoining pre-function area also underwent a major touch-up with new floorings, lightings, furniture
and wall decorations. The carefully selected materials, colour scheme and details – from the shimmering
fabric on the upholstered wall panels to the effervescent texture of the ocean-coloured carpet and boatinspired round brass door handles – conspire to create a fresh new space to be experienced.
The Club also recently refurbished and converted the Youth Playroom into an arcade room. ONE°15 partnered
with Timezone to bring in old school arcade games, enhancing the enjoyment and pleasure of children.

LUXE LIFE
It looks out for you, with a little
nudge at the sides.
In the event that the car gets broadsided, PRESAFE® Impulse Side has you covered. This system
automatically moves the driver and passengers
away from the side when a lateral collision
occurs. It does so by inflating an air chamber
located on either side of the front seats, thus
increasing the distance between the occupants
and door. One less thing to worry about while
being on the road.
It takes care of even the smallest
details, details you wouldn’t have
thought of.
It’s an intelligent car, so driving
is made easier.
Of course, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class is by no means
a self-driving car. But it’s close enough. The E-Class
takes a bold step towards autonomous driving.
Equipped with Drive Pilot, the car automatically
maintains the correct distance to vehicles in front.
It can also follow traffic ahead in its lane at speeds
up to 210km/h. What this means is that the driver no
longer has to operate the brake or accelerator pedal
during normal driving. Being stuck in traffic is now
a less stressful situation.
Safety-wise, each car is fitted with Active Brake
Assist to help warn the driver of any impending
collisions, provide optimum support with emergency
braking and if necessary, even autonomously apply
the brakes. Active Lane Keeping Assist helps prevent
unintentional lane changing. The car even knows
when you’re tired – when a long day results in
inattentiveness and drowsiness behind the wheel,
the car’s Attention Assist system picks up the signs
to emit an audible and visible alert.
Taking things up a notch, Mercedes-Benz debuts
its all-new PRE-SAFE® Sound technology in the
new E-Class. The nitty gritty aside, this system
basically works to protect your ears in the case of
an imminent crash. When the sensors of the car
detect that an impact is highly probable, PRESAFE® Sound emits a short interference signal
through the vehicle’s sound system, triggering
the natural human reflex and thus preparing the
driver for the expected sound of an accident.
Mercedes is most definitely pushing the envelope
in automative safety.
It does help that it looks good too.
The car’s intelligence is boosted by its good
looks. The executive saloon is sophisticated and
confidently stylish. It boasts a muscular front
and broad shoulders above the rear wheel to
command a powerful presence. The interior
sports a refined, sporty look with ergonomic,
sculptural seats. You can even choose from 64
ambient lights to suit your mood for the day.
Or get the attention of people you drive by.
All in all, the E-Class is definitely a technological
wonder. All that’s left to do is to wait and see
if it will dominate the business-class segment.

Two hotly-anticipated, ultra-exclusive supercars will make their world
debuts later in the year. Longitude gets the scoop on these rare beauties.
BLAST FROM THE PAST
Like a ghost from the past, the legendary Jaguar XKSS
is set to make a return – 59 years later. Often dubbed
as the world’s first supercar, Jaguar originally made
the XKSS in 1957 as a road-going version of the
Le Mans winning D-type. Famous owners include the
late Steve McQueen. More could have owned the
supercar; 25 had already been earmarked for export
to the U.S when disaster struck. A fire broke out at
Jaguar’s factory in Brown Lane and with that, nine
of the 25 cars were destroyed.
Now, Jaguar will build from scratch the nine XKSS
sports cars lost in the fire for a select group of
36º
established collectors and customers. The swoopy
two-seaters will be handcrafted by Jaguar Classic’s
expert technicians, manufactured right down to exact
specifications of those produced in 1957. The cars
are in no way merely a replica. They are referred to
as continuation cars instead. The XKSS will make
its world debut presentation at the opening of the
Los Angeles Auto Show in November.
Getting your hands on one of them might prove
to be challenging though. All nine have been sold,
with first deliveries to customers planned for early
2017. You’ll also need some deep pockets – a historic
car like the XKSS is an indulgence that will cost well
into the millions.

LAFERRARI GOES TOPLESS
LUXE LIFE
How can the Prancing Horse make its hybrid sports car,
the LaFerrari, even better? By removing the lid, of course.
After much speculation and rumours, Ferrari confirmed
that it is indeed building an open-top version of its
spellbinding supercar. The new car will make its debut
at the Paris International Motor Show in October.
What we do know is the new limited edition special
series will be available with a removable carbon-fibre
hardtop and removable soft top. It mirrors the original
LaFerrari as much as possible, with the same running
gear and performance figures as the original. Some
significant modifications have been made to the chassis
in order to retain the same torsional rigidity and beam
stiffness as the coupé version.
Aside from the fact that Ferrari is taking one of its most
ambitious cars al fresco, not much else is known for now.
The name and technical characteristics of the car is kept
under wraps and will only be announced during
its debut in Paris.
Ferrari hasn’t yet revealed how many it will build, but in
true Ferrari fashion, the car has already been shown to a
hand-selected group of clients and collectors before the
news was made public. And you guessed it – they are
all sold out.

KOH CHANG
Those with a couple of days on their hands can
consider taking a trip further down Pattaya to the
Koh Chang archipelago, an area surrounded by crystal
clear waters, breathtaking coastline scenery and
majestic rainforest covered mountains. Still relatively
untouched by tourism, Koh Chang retains a rugged
spirit. The archipelago here is teeming with over 50
islands, the most popular being Koh Chang Island,
Thailand’s second biggest island after Phuket. This
island, along with 43 others, make up the picturesque
Koh Chang National Park. Diving and snorkelling are
on the cards here, thanks to abundant marine life
and pristine coral reefs found in the waters.
AO SALAD
Venture out of the marine park to outlying islands like
Koh Kood. Bask in the quiet and tranquil surroundings
of this island, courtesy of its remote location. For a
taste of local island life, pay the traditional fishing
village of Ao Salad a visit. Ao Salad is one of the few
developments of any kind in the area. The more
adventurous ones can consider venturing further
inland on a trek to the postcard-worthy Klong Chao
Waterfall. This natural cascade flows into a large pool,
where many visitors jump in for freshwater swimming.

KOH SAMUI
Koh Samui is perhaps the more commercialised version
of Koh Chang, but still a must-visit with endless bays
and rocky coves waiting to be discovered. For some
beach time, head to Samui’s most popular stretch of
powdery white sand – Chaweng Beach. This beach
offers great swimming and plenty of water sports. It
can get a little bit crowded, so when night falls, escape
the crowd and anchor at one of the many deserted
bays in the area.
If you’re looking for paradise, sail to the nearby Ang
Thong National Marine Park. It’s an idyllic scene – azure
waters gently lap against the edges of thick, forested
islands with powdery white sand. 42 islands and
limestone massifs comprise this protected archipelago.
Here, get on a kayak and explore caves and tunnels
carved out of the limestone cliffs. Don’t forget to
stop by Koh Mae Koh, or Mother Island, home to the
breathtaking Emerald Lake. This vivid green seawater
lake is surrounded entirely by steep-sided cliffs, creating
a perfect backdrop for photo taking.
Cruising around the Koh Samui region also includes
neighbouring island Koh Phangan. Koh Phangan
boasts a number of secluded bays along its coastline,
only reachable by boat. It’s also famous for its beautiful
rock formations. The island of Koh Tao is not one to
leave out as well. Koh Tao, which translates to Turtle
Island, got its name for its once abundant turtles.
Today, it still draws sea-loving divers with the possibility
of encountering a whale shark.

PITSTOP:
BANGKOK
After your cruising holiday, add the city of
Bangkok to your itinerary to wrap up your trip
to Thailand. Located just two hours away
from Pattaya, Bangkok is an excellent stopover
if you need to catch a flight back home.
Shopping, visiting ornate palaces and ancient
temples, and sampling delicious Thai cuisine
are some activities to check off your to-do list
in this sprawling metropolis.
When in Bangkok, make a stop at the Pacific
City Club, a reciprocal club of ONE°15. This
prestigious club is located on the top three
floors of the impressive Two Pacific Place in
central Bangkok. Dine in style over glorious
views of Bangkok at Pacific City Club’s F&B
establishments. Opt for international cuisine
at The Dining Room, go for Cantonese
specialties at Sai Si or head to The Bar for
good food coupled with delectable tipples.
To relax your muscles after days on the sea,
indulge in a massage session at The Spa at
Pacific City Club. Guests can find everything
from Swedish to Sports massages. Highly
recommended is the spa’s signature Pacific
Oriental Blend. This massage combines Thai
stretching techniques with classic Swedishinfluenced oil therapy to deliver deeply relaxing
and energising results. Surely the best way to
