Location:
Central Hersonissos hotel is located 27 km east of Heraklion, the capital of Crete, in the north part
of the island, in the center of Hersonissos which is known as “the heart of tourism of Crete”.

Airport and harbor of Heraklion are approximately 30 minutes away (27 km), the golf court of Crete
is 8 km, the palace of Knossos 30 km, and Malia only 7 km away.
250 m away from a sandy beach, 500 m from the action of night life, but still quiet in the night as it
is built in a side street of the city. ”Star beach” Water Park is 1 km away. Bus station 50m away.

The nearby beaches
In Hersonissos visitors are offered an abundance of breathtaking beaches. Apart from the long beach
of Hersonissos that lies near close, you can swim at the nearby beaches of Malia, Kato Gouves,
Gournes, Kokini Hani and Stalida. If you want to go further, we are suggesting the ones of Vai (the
palm beach east coast of Crete), Ammoudara, Mononaftis, Agia Pelagia and Fodele on the northern
coast of Heraklion Prefecture, or Matala, Kalamaki, Agios Nikitas, Loutra, Rodakino, moni Preveli,
Katalyki and Lendas on the southern coast, or Balos Elafonhsi and Falasarna on the west side of
Crete..
Archaeological Sites
While you are vacationing in Hersonissos, we recommend starting with a visit to the Minoan
settlement and the Romans sites in Hersonissos, such as the ruins of a theater and houses, the
fountain and the clock. Then you can pay visit at the Paleo-Christian Basilica (in the Kastri region)
and at the splendid “Lychnostatis” Folklore museum. Of course, three “must see” places are the
magnificent archaeological site of Knossos where you can admire the famous Minoan Palace as well
as those of Malia and Lyttos.
If you want to see more, make a tour in the rest of Heraklion Prefecture so as to visit the impressive
Minoan Cities of Faistos, Amnissos, Gortyna, Tyllisos and Levina, as well as the Minoan ruins in
Archanes.
Finally, Heraklion city offers some excellent sightseeing, such as the Venetian Walls and Port with
“Koules” Venetian castle, the Morozini Fountain and the wonderful Archaeological, Historical,
Natural and Ecclesiastical Museums.
Fun in Hersonissos
Except the numerous commercial and tourist stores, restaurants, taverns, cafeterias and discos and
bars that you will find in Hersonissos, you can spend time to have fun either playing golf in one of
the biggest courses in Greece or watch the underwater life in the new Aquarium of Crete, that has
been recently established in the region of Gouves and hosts lots of species living in the
Mediterranean Sea
