The goal of NAFTA was to increase the amount of goods traded between the nations. From the beginning, NAFTA has proven to be very controversial. Supporters say it was a landmark trade agreement that benefited all three countries. Critics have claimed that it has destroyed the manufacturing industry in the United States and created pollution problems in Mexico.
