In History and Geography we were wondering:

To celebrate the centenary year we will be learning about the First World War. Below are the areas which we will be researching further. Throughout this
topic children will be given an element of free time to research an area of interest i.e. life in the trenches, diseases, Germany etc. This will be presented as
a project at the end of the term. Our focus will be on teaching and applying independent learning skills and recognising how we can learn in different ways.
We will encourage the children to pose their own questions and take a longer-term view by planning, researching and presenting their work.

Art/DT
We will be making our own wartime propaganda posters and learning how to combine colours and create tints, tones and shades to reflect the purpose
of our work.
We were wondering who were WW1 artists and what scenes did they observe?
We will be making our own wartime recipes and holding a tea party. Look out for an invitation in the post!
Literacy
Our class reading book will be War Horse by Michael Morpurgo. We will be
writing diary entries, describing settings and reading wartime poetry in our
topic sessions. At the end of the term we will be making our own class
information book about WW1.
The children will also be reading stories from other cultures and creating
their own versions.
Science
We were wondering what diseases/health issues were around during
the First World War?
 How was Exeter affected by Influenza?
 What is Trench Foot?
 What is gangrene? What did it do to soldiers?
 What was Shell shock?
 What happened to soldiers hearing?
 What was the frightful flu?
If you have any memorabilia associated with WW1 that we could
use/borrow or share, we would greatly appreciate it.
