magazine in Boston, Massachusetts to
celebrate the 400th anniversary of the
discovery of America.
and to the Republic
for which it stands,
October 12, 1892 - first used in public schools
to celebrate Columbus Day.
one nation,
under God,
indivisible,
with liberty and justice for all."
1923 - the words "my flag" were changed to
"the flag of the United States" by the National
Flag Conference.
- Francis M. Bellamy
June 22, 1942 - received official recognition
by a Congressional act.
June 14, 1954 - the phrase "under God" was
approved by a Congressional act during
President Eisenhower's administration.
