Jesse Burns, Santiago Leon and Maricruz Gonzalez

Riders of the Week
May 9 – May 13
Jesse Burns has been chosen for Rider of the Week by Doug Moore. Jesse loves the movie 42,
and the book of James in the Bible. His role model is Jesus Christ because he is perfect. When Jesse
grows up, he hopes to become an orthopedic surgeon because he wants to help people and the
human body interests him. In his spare time, he loves to play baseball and hang out with his friends.
Mr. Moore says, “ Jesse is one of those students that always brightens your day. He is a good
student and a good athlete that is very involved in school. His strength lies in his upbeat
personality. He starts his day in pre-Cal which is a bummer for most people but you can’t tell it by
his smile.”
Mrs. Murphree has chosen Santiago Leon for Rider of the Week. His favorite movie is
Guardians of the Galaxy because it is really fun and interesting to watch. His role model is his father
because he is really hardworking, determined and always accomplishes his goals. At this time, he
isn’t sure what he wants to be, but he wants to do something that will change people’s lives for the
better. Until he decides, he will continue enjoying his pastimes: reading and playing video games.
Mrs. Murphree says, “It is with great pleasure that I have the opportunity select Santiago Leon as the
Roughrider of the week. He is one of my very best students. He has been in my class for four years;
therefore, I have had the opportunity to observe his work habits and behavior for a long time. He is
a very respectful, dependable, self-motivated, intelligent and determined young man. He excels in
all that he does: academics, extracurricular activities, community service and leadership. He is an
excellent role model for C.H.S. and has made the last 4 years at C.H.S. a rewarding experience for
me.”
Maricruz Gonzalez has been chosen for Rider of the Week by Doug Moore. Her favorite
movie is Instructions Not Included, and she loves to play sports in her spare time. Her role model is
her mother because she has taught her a lot in life, and she is very caring and a hard worker. When
Maricruz grows up, she hopes to become an accountant because she wants to be able to help others
(and herself) manage money. Mr. Moore says, “One of the hardest working students in school,
Maricruz is one of my favorite students. She is also very quietly involved in school. She is in the
band and plays soccer. Maricruz is one of those students that works hard and is very involved
but is very humble.”
