Use the Let’s begin… as a warm up to introduce the lesson. Ask the students
to match the products with the raw materials they are made from.
Teaching the lesson
• Explain the meaning of industry
• Explain the classification of industries into cottage, small-scale and largescale industries. Explain each of the industries and things they manufacture.
• Ask the students to write true or false in the Think and answer… section.
• Give to the students an account of where various industries like iron and
steel, cotton textile mills, ship building industries, etc. are located.
• On the atlas, locate the places where the major industries are located.
• Describe the importance of industries.
• Establish the fact that industries cause different type of pollution.
Let’s answer…
• The teacher can help the students complete Exercises A, B, C, D and E on
pages 109-110 orally. The children can then be asked to write the answers on
their own.
Let’s do…
• Field Trip (F) Arrange field trips to small scale industries located near the
school. You can divide the students into groups and ask them to make a
report on this trip. Also ask them to find out from the manager of the factory,
the information given in the book.
• Project Work (G) The students are required to make a list of the things they
see around them. Ask them to find out how those things are manufactured
