PHIL 1010 Death, Dying, and Grief / 2 cr.
From a philosophical, historical, and cultural setting, this course is designed to help a person come to terms with
the reality of death. Topics covered include the stages of dying, grief, social and religious dynamics of death,
significance of funerals, and death and the law. MNTC: 2/6B

OUTLINE OF MAJOR CONTENT AREAS (Course Specific Outcomes)
 Students will explore thanatology, coming to personal understanding of death, dying and grief.
 Students will study the history and practice of funerals.
 Students will learn and reflect on religious and philosophical traditions, teachings, and practices of
thanatology
