Sponsorship Opportunities May 4-6, 2017 2015 Mars New Year - L to R: Honorary Chairman and Chief Meteorologist of WTAE-TV Mike Harvey, Mars Mayor Gregg Hartung, and Dr. Jim Greene of NASA Inaugural Event Highlights June 14-16, 2015, the town of Mars celebrated the first-ever Mars New Year in coordination with the planet Mars’ new year. Mike Harvey, Chief Meteorologist of WTAE-TV, served as Honorary Chairman and assisted with planning every step of the way. Mike has agreed to return for the 2017 event. NASA’s Public Engagement Team collaborated with the event. The exhibits and staff they brought were truly amazing. Dr. Jim Green, Planetary Science Division Director, was a key speaker. They are extremely excited for 2017 and plan to have an even bigger impact! The blast-off dinner was a sell-out and keynote speaker, Dr. Julielynn Wong, amused the crowd with tales from her experience at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in space medicine. Media coverage was fantastic. The Associated Press picked up the event! We showed the theatrical trailer for “The Martian” before it hit the public! Approximately 10,000 people attended the inaugural event. The forecast for 2017 is 10,000-15,000!
