Baumgartner Properties Karl Baumgartner has offered several properties available for scout camping. Karl is an Eagle Scout (1957), past scout leader, and long time scouting supporter. In addition he has served as president of the Coastal Prairie chapter of Texas Master Naturalists. The properties are within reasonable driving distance and offer potable water and restroom facilities. Most offer fishing as well as great opportunities for nature observation. Baumgartner Pond 2523 N Bar Rd, Richmond, TX 77406 Campsite – 35 acres on the Brazos River 8 miles north of Rosenberg, 2 ponds, fishing (past site of Webelos Woods and Fall Camporee) Directions – From Rosenberg, take FM 723 north 4 miles, just before Foster High School turn left on Beadle Lane. Go 3 miles to a T at Stratman Rd, turn left and go 1 mile to Bar Road, turn Right and go ¼ mile until Blacktop ends, turn right and follow private gravel road back through gate ½ mile to campsite. Distance – 8 miles Travel time—10-15 minutes El Lobo 5301 Baldwin East Bernard Campsite – 25 acres on the San Bernard River between Kendleton and Wharton, 2-acre pond, 1000 feet of San Bernard River Frontage, secluded and pristine, huge cypress trees, “uninhabited since the Karankawa Indians in the early 1800’s.” Fishing, swimming, exploring. Directions – Take 59 South 15 miles toward Wharton, about 4 miles past Kendleton turn left on CR 216 (large Shell truck stop on corner), follow the blacktop road 6 miles until it comes to a T at Baldwin Road, turn right on Baldwin, go 300 yards to 2nd gate, enter and park, hike back 700 feet to river and campsite. Distance – 23 miles Travel time -- 30 minutes Lavaca Camp 2027 CR 128 Edna Campsite – 572 acres 9 miles north of Edna, giant oaks, one mile frontage on the Lavaca River, pristine ranch land never inhabited, 3-acre pond, deer, hogs, armadillos. Very cool. Campsite in is the forest. Directions—Take 59 south 70 miles to second Edna exit, follow feeder road ¾ mile to the second highway intersection, Highway 822, turn right at the blinking red light. Go north on 822 nine miles to CR127, turn left, follow it four miles until the blacktop ends, go 400 yards more to CR128, turn right go two miles, you go over a bridge, go another ¼ mile to big power lines, turn right on private road, go 100 yards past transformer pole, trail to campsite is on the left. Walk in 75 yards to campsite. Distance—85 miles Travel time—1 hour 30 minutes Tierra Grande 14701 Rio Arbor Dr Needville Campsite – 13 acres west of Needville with 1500 feet of frontage on San Bernard River, adjacent to 1000 Acre ranch, heavily wooded secluded campsite, 1-acre pond, fishing, good swimming area. Very easy access. Directions – From Rosenberg take Highway 36 south 6 miles to Williams School Road, go right 11 miles to a T, turn right on Bushnell Road go ½ mile to a T, turn left on Mueck Road, follow Mueck Road 2 ½ miles to Rio Arbor Drive, turn left and go 2 miles to Rio Arbor Drive, turn right and go 200 yards and park in cul-de-sac at end of road. (no other property owners on either side of road). Campsite 50 yards straight ahead; pond 50 yards to the right. Distance – 22 miles minutes Travel time – 25
