3 Kilometre Wide Tornado Destroys School

A 1: minute/massive/miniscule, three kilometre-wide tornado has battered the
city of Moore in the southern 2: American/Canadian/Southern state of Oklahoma.
Winds of up to 320 km/h smashed across Oklahoma on Monday leaving at least
91 people dead, including 20 children from a local elementary school. The threekilometre wide tornado hit Moore, a city of 55,000 people and was on the ground
for 45 3: days/hours/minutes causing massive amounts of damage to homes,
businesses and most tragically – schools.

The Plaza Town Elementary School was directly hit with buildings being
destroyed and 4: ceilings/floors/walls and roofs collapsing under the power of
the tornado. Oklahoma’s Lt. Governor Todd Lamb told the BBC, “The school was
10 flattened, the walls pancaked in”. President Obama declared Oklahoma a Major
Disaster Area and promised the state would be given all the 5: help/money/care
it needed to recover.
Eye-witnesses were 6: surprised/shocked/amazed as they told American news
companies CNN, NBC and ABC the horror of the tornado hitting their homes.
One 7: victim/survivor/witness Ricky Stover said, “We locked the cellar door, it got
15 louder and the tornado ripped open the door. We thought we were dead”. Another eyewitness Melissa Newton added, “Some homes are completely gone. It’s devastating.”

Did You Know…?
That the US state of x: _______ is famous for having a few unusual ‘firsts’?
The first parking meter was opened in Oklahoma City 1935 and in 1937 the
world’s first ever shopping cart was invented at the Standard Food Market
shop. Although situated in the ‘z: ______ Alley’ – Oklahoma is a very
sunny place, with more than 300 of days of sunshine every year. The state
has only one national sports team franchise, the Oklahoma City Thunder
who play basketball in the NBA Northwest Division.
