2016 KTC Conference October 20-21, 2016 The Galt House and The Kentucky Expo Center, Louisville KY NOTE: Because of the demand for rooms at this event, and our desire protect our block of rooms, we will email each registrant the “Registration Link” after we receive your registration form and payment. Room reservations at the Galt House must be made before Monday, October 3, 2016 to insure the negotiated conference room rate. The headquarters hotel will be the Galt House, 140 N 4th Street, Louisville KY 40202. Rooms have been blocked for KTC Conference participants at a rate starting at $144.00 per night, not including applicable taxes and parking fees. We have a great educational program planned, and along with the Golf Outing, Welcome Reception, Breakfast and Business Meeting/Luncheon, you will have a number of chances to interact with turf professionals and your peers. In addition to our events, you will also be able to participate in activities associated with the GIE+EXPO, where you can continue to expand your network. Those activities include the Trade Show – An Indoor Marketplace with more than 750 exhibits and an outdoor, try-before you buy, hands-on, demo area that covers over 19-acres. After the Welcome Reception on Thursday night at the Galt House, you may attend the live entertainment at 4th Street Live, just a few blocks from the Galt House. The Opener will be Brooke Eden, with Joe Nichols as the Headliner. The shows begin at 8:00 PM, and are free to KTC registrants. Also new this year, you will be able to bring additional staff members to the show at a reduced rate. For each organization that registers 3 staff members at the Full Registration rate, additional staff members will get half price off their registration – for either a Full Registration, or One Day Pass normal rates. 2016 Welcome Reception and General Session Breakfast The Welcome Reception will be held in the Galt House on Thursday, October 20th from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. Heavy hors d’oeuvres will be severed along with Cash Bars. For those who sign up for a Full Registration, or a Thursday One Day Pass, 2 drink tickets will be provided. Then it’s just a short walk to 4th Street Live. On Friday morning, October 21st – from 7:30 – 9:00 AM, a Breakfast will be provided prior to the start of the General Sessions. Meet and chat with your peers while enjoying a Continental type breakfast leading up to the General Sessions. The Breakfast will take place at the Kentucky Exposition Center, and be located in the same room as the General Sessions. Annual Golf Tournament –Sponsored by: Syngenta The 2016 KTC Annual Golf Tournament will be held Wednesday, October 19 at the Audubon Country Club. A form for team and/or individual participants is included with this packet. The format will be a 4person scramble. Check-in is from 10:45 A.M – 11:30 A.M., (EST) with a shotgun start at 12:30 P.M. Tee prizes will be provided, along with a box lunch (starting at 11:30) and a post-tournament awards reception to be held in Audubon’s Club House. Awards Ceremony and Annual Business Meeting The awards ceremony and annual business meeting will be held Thursday, October 20 beginning at Noon. Additionally, all of the past Presidents, and Man of the Year winners will be recognized. Lunch will be provided. Participation is included in full registration. Elections of new directors will be conducted along with other items of business during the annual meeting. The KTC is YOUR organization, and you should make your voice heard in its administration. Please know that in addition to the normal slate of candidates for directors, nominations from the floor will be solicited during the business meeting. The KTC Legacy, Dwight G. Barkley, and Johnny Mathias Scholarships, and other allied-association scholarships and awards will be presented during the awards ceremony. General Notes Please note that: 1. You can save money by taking advantage of pre-registration, which will close at Mid-Night, Saturday, October 1, 2016. After that date, all fees will increase and registration will only be available on-site. If you prefer to register off-line, please ensure all forms are postmarked and mailed with payment no later than Friday, September 30, 2016. 2. Applications for CEUs have been submitted to the State of Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Tennessee, as well as other states, and the GCSAA, for pesticide licenses CEUs. Approved points will be added to the KTC web-site as approvals are made available. 3. All times for Conference activities are Eastern times. 4. John Zimmers will discuss the restoration of bunkers and ditches in addition to other original architectural features of the golf course. Evolution of a Golf Course: A Superintendent’s Perspective Jeff Corcoran, Manager of Golf Courses and Grounds, Oak Hill Country Club Jeff Corcoran will discuss the evolution of Oak Hill Country Club’s Donald Ross designed East Course and the architectural changes that have been made through the years. He will also detail how those changes influenced the current long-range planning and future championships planned at Oak Hill. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Sports Turf Sessions: Sponsored by Southern Athletic Fields Thursday, October 20 - 1:30 – 5 PM The Principals of Sports Turf Management Planning and Drainage Marcus Dean, Sports Turf Manager at University of Kentucky Marcus Dean will discuss the processes for developing a useful maintenance plan that can be applied to either cool or warm grasses. He will cover weed and disease strategies, aerification, drainage and budgeting. While the focus will be on native soil fields, Marcus will also offer some of the major differences in fields constructed with native soils vs. a sand-based root zone. Sports Turf Applications for Plant Growth Retardants and Weed Control Options Dr. Wesley Totten, Chair Department of Agriculture, Geosciences, and Natural Resources, University of Tennessee at Martin Dr. Wesley Totten will cover the history of usage in turf, including sports turf. He will discuss the types and classifications of plant growth retardants, the current usage of plant growth regulators in sports turf situations and current weed control options, including timings and frequencies. Sports Turf Panel: All Things Baseball – The Maintenance of Baseball/Softball Fields for Skinned and Turf Areas Panelists: Tom Nielsen, Head Groundskeeper, Louisville Bats Baseball Club Thomas Trotter, Head Groundskeeper, Nashville Sounds Baseball Club Jake Tyler, Turf Manager, Toldeo Mud Hens Each panel member will open with a brief discussion highlighting one maintenance task that all sports turf managers face. After addressing questions on these topics, the panel will expand on other critical issues, such as turf areas, fertility, weed control, construction of mounds, skinned areas and warning track. Groundskeeping Abroad and Making Events Work on Fields at All Levels Luke Yoder, National Sports Field Specialist for Ewing Irrigation Luke Yoder will discuss his experiences working on professional fields in Korea, Sweden and the Dominican Republic. These experiences include new field construction, field renovation and teaching best maintenance practices working with what they have.
