Job Description Job Title: Department: Reporting to: Junior Buyer, Denim and T-Shirts Buying Buyer per location Key Objectives: The primary purpose of the Junior Buyer’s role is to plan, source, select and buy collections from existing and new designers or brands which fit the targeted customer profile across channels while also ensuring all business and financial objectives are met. This position will be accountable for buying specific product areas, reporting to the Buyer for sign-off. Main Duties & Responsibilities: Achieve targeted sales, margin and profit on the designated area. Work with the Buyer to develop the seasonal strategy for denim and tshirt brand collections across stores and on-line, to include brand/designer mix and range plans in conjunction with the CEO and Merchandising Director. Maintain awareness of all fashion and market trends and new brands or designers and review them as potential suppliers. Effectively collaborate with other members of the Buying and Creative teams to ensure seasonal collections are cohesive and representative of shared vision. Partner with the Buyer and Merchandising Team to create seasonal strategies for departments relating to all KPI’s. Achieve, where possible, exclusive collections or products for stores and on-line. Work with the Merchandising Team to create seasonal markdown planning documents and collate total departments’ proposals for review with CEO versus Financial targets. Attend trade fairs, fashion shows, showrooms, press days and events, locally and internationally, as part of the buying role and for relationship building with suppliers and press. Receive sign-off, where necessary or where above plan/target, for orders or selections from the CEO. Work with the Merchandising Team to ensure orders are placed accurately, efficiently and with the correct authorisation to ensure speedy administration through the business. Update relevant areas of the business on any changes to planned orders or selections. Monitor and maintain A-Season stock in terms of depth on sizes and reorder when required. Develop a strategy to grow A-Season product offering and maximise the potential sales mix. Continually develop relationships with suppliers to ensure maximum support for Matches and where appropriate communicate product performance to them; and to ensure this is signed off by the Buyer. Negotiate optimum terms on all “buys” including price, delivery, discount and payment with suppliers. Request, where appropriate or where directed, complimentary marketing and training initiatives with suppliers. Communicate with all relevant areas of the business the range plans and any specific highlights or key products and keep updating this information. Support all stores and on-line with product information, training, visits and merchandising to maximise sales. Continually review product performance and pro-actively work with the Merchandising Director to develop strategies to maximise productivity and re-order where necessary. Finalise all end of season agreements with suppliers and co-ordinate any stock movements and administration. Regularly appraise and develop junior team members; carry out Matches’ annual performance review at the communicated time. Continually and enthusiastically lead by example, representing Matches Ethos and Brand. Any other duties as reasonably requested. Essential Skills & Requirements Must have at least 3 years proven success in a role which reflects the considerable responsibilities involved Demonstrated experience within a multi-channel environment/on-line & retail Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills in order to build fast and effective relationships with staff members, suppliers and other key contacts Strong planning and analytical skills, including computer skills Exceptional organizational skills with a high attention to detail Ability to work well both autonomously and as part of a team Excellent commercial and customer awareness Passionate about product and corresponding market Educated to degree level or equivalent
