Page 24 Introduction There are many animals that live in the Amazon Rainforest. Our class researched some of the animals that live there. We wrote about their appearance, their diet, where they live, how they stay safe, and why they are endangered. We hope you enjoy! Macaws by Amit They have blue heads and black beaks. It lives in trees. Macaws eat fruits. They are in pairs to be safe. People are cutting the trees. Turtles By Asher Some turtles have shells, green legs and heads. They live on the forest floor and in the river. They eat some small plants and small animals. It stays safe by being in camouflage. It is endangered because they are cutting the rainforest down. Parrots by Bernardo Some parrots have colorful feathers. They live in the emergent layer. Parrots eat fruits and nuts. They can fly up. People are cutting down their homes. Bats by Brian Bats look like mice but with wings and the bat is black. They live in trees. Vampire bats drink blood. They fly. People are cutting down the bats homes. Bats hang upside down. Bats have sharp teeth. Frogs by Camila Some frogs have red eyes. It is small. Some have green skin. They live on the forest floor. They eat moths, flies, spiders. Their skin is poison. There are people cutting down the trees. Some are very small. Tapirs by Clara Some tapirs have gray and white markings. Tapirs live on the forest floor. Tapirs eat fruits and seeds that fall from trees. Tapirs stay safe because it has a great sense of smell. Tapirs are endangered because people are cutting the trees down. Sloths By Diego Sloths have a lot of fur some sloths are black, some are white. Sloths eat fruit and leaves. Sloths hide to stay safe. People are cutting the trees down that are the sloths homes. The sloths live in trees. Sloths sleep 18 hours a day! Jaguars by Eduarda They are the biggest cats. They have spots. They live in understory and on the forest floor. They eat meat. They blend in. Hunters kill them for their fur. Snakes by Francisco Some snakes are big and green. They live in the canopy and on the forest floor. They eat other animals. They use camouflage. People are taking the life from the rainforest. Anacondas are the biggest in the rainforest! Leaf-Cutter Ants By Frederic They are small and brown with six legs and has fangs. Leaf-cutter ants live on the forest floor. They eat the fungus from the chewed leaves made by their garden. Leaf-cutter ants stay safe because of the soldier ants. They are endangered because humans are destroying their homes. Birds by Henrique Some birds have green, red, and white feathers. They live in the canopy. Birds fly away from danger. They are endangered because people want them as pets. Toucans by Isabele Some toucans have a black body and green eyes. They live in the emergent layer. They eat fruits and seeds. It stays in the emergent layer. People are cutting down their homes. Their beaks are bigger than their bodies! Monkeys by Abril The monkeys are brown. They live in trees. They eat bananas. There are big groups of monkeys. They stay in the trees. Basilisk Lizard by Martina Basilisk lizards have green skin, green eyes, a long tail and a long tongue. Basilisk lizards live on the forest floor. Basilisk Lizards go near the base of the trees and floor to eat juicy grasshoppers. Basilisk Lizards stay safe by running and swimming in the water. Basilisk Lizards are in danger because animals can eat them. Piranhas By Rebeca It has sharp teeth and it is black. Piranhas live in rivers. Piranhas eat fish and meat. Piranhas live together to stay safe. People who live by the river are catching piranhas for food. Some piranhas are vegetarians. Piranhas don´t eat people but if you are with blood they will eat you! Spiders by Reut Spiders can be hairy and black. Spiders live on the forest floor. Spiders eat frogs,snakes,and insects. Spiders stay safe by blending in. Spiders are endangered because people are ruining the trees that spiders make houses in. Beetles By Victor They look like they are made of metal. Some beetles live on the forest floor. Some beetles live in the trees. They eat leaves. It is camouflaged. Tarantuas by Luiza They are hairy and brown. They live in webs. They eat birds and ants. They attack who attack them. Conclusion Those are just some of the animals that live in the Amazon Rainforest. If you want to know more about the animals of the rainforest, you can search in books or the internet. Glossary Camouflage: to hide or disguise Canopy Layer: this layer of the rainforest is considered “the roof” of the rainforest. Emergent Layer: this layer has the tallest trees and is the very top layer. Endangered: at serious risk of dying out or vanishing. Forest Floor: this is the bottom layer of the rainforest. Understory: this is the middle layer of the rainforest with the tree trunks and vines.
