* Lithium hypochlorite has excellent stability during storage when properly packaged to protect it
from moisture and carbon dioxide. A loss of about 0.2% available chlorine per month can be
expected under normal conditions of storage.

DANGER: Lithium hypochlorite is highly corrosive. Keep out of reach of
children. Lithium hypochlorite can be corrosive to eyes, skin, nose, and throat.
Inhalation can cause coughing and difficulty breathing. If inhaled, remove to
fresh air and obtain medical attention. On contact with the skin, flush affected
areas with plenty of water. If the eyes are affected, seek prompt medical
attention. If accidentally taken internally, drink plenty of water and obtain
medical attention immediately.
Lithium Hypochlorite is a strong oxidizing agent. It should only be mixed with
water.

Handling/Storage/Disposal
The use of rubber gloves and safety glasses is recommended when handling
lithium hypochlorite. Drums containing this chemical should be stored in a cool,
dry place away from possible exposure to water, heat, acids, or organic matter.
Spills should be swept up and placed in a clean, dry drum. Waste materials
should be disposed of in accordance with local, state, or federal regulations.
Shipping Containers
Lithium hypochlorite is packaged and shipped in polyethylene-lined fiber drums
containing 100 or 400 pounds (45.5 or 181.8 kg) of product and in 2000-lb. lined
supersacks.
Shipping Limitations
Shipments of lithium hypochlorite for Industrial Sanitation/Disinfection use are
shipped by Lithium Division under labeling requirements of:
EPA Reg. No. 7675-5* Industrial Disinfectant and/or Sanitizer for
repackaging use only
Lithium hypochlorite cannot be transported by the Postal Service, but shipments
by UPS, air, water, rail, or truck are acceptable within each carrier’s weight
limits and packaging requirements.
Shipments of lithium hypochlorite are described as: Lithium Hypochlorite, Dry,
UN 1471. The product is shipped under Hazard Class 5.1 and requires an
“Oxidizing Agent” label for both domestic and international shipments.
Responsible Care initiative dictates that all shipments of lithium chemicals must
be transported in a DOT-approved vehicle in a responsible manner (i.e., no flat
bed trucks).
* Because of EPA regulations and labeling requirements, lithium hypochlorite packaged for
industrial sanitation/disinfection cannot be used for swimming pool sanitation or shock.
