Operational experience at WWTP Strass
Due to significant variations in wastewater characteristics (skiing
tourism), load and temperature at Strass typically during the winterand spring season the sludge settling behaviour detoriates and
recovers during summer and fall (see seasonal SVI-variation profile
over 10 years‘ period; monthly average values)

Impact of cyclone operation on settling behavior
Since 2002 excess aluminate dosing, additional Fe-dosing and surface
wasting has been applied to maintain SVI<150 ml/g. After
installation of the cyclones settling properties improved and countermeasures have been cut back (now metal dosing set to zero and
predominantly wasting from the WAS-stream).
