As usual, there are some fantastic reasons why these children have been chosen and
some of the comments from teachers include:
“….always trying her best in lessons…..”
“….for submitting a fantastic piece of homework….”
“….making a determined effort to improve all areas of maths and writing even
further…”
“.…for making the right choices….”
“….always demonstrating ‘green’ behaviour….”
Well done all of you!
Year 6 SATS:Thank you to all of the Y6 parents and carers who came along to our SATS information
sessions. We hope that you found it useful to find out about the changes to the tests this
year.
The ‘Achieve 100’ books that were discussed at the meeting have now been issued to all
Y6 children to work on further practice over the next few months.
Also, if you were unable to make the information session, the presentation is now on our
Facebook page or can be found via the following link:- https://youtu.be/nF1n1g4CePI
A reminder that SATs week is week beginning Monday 9th May, 2016 and it is vital that
your child is in school this week as tests cannot be taken on a different day.
DRET Big Sing:-
A selection of children from our school performed at the Royal and Derngate theatre in
Northampton on 1st March as part of the DRET Big Sing and over 400 children took part.
The children performed a number of songs and really enjoyed the opportunity. It was also
fantastic to see so many parents who were able to come along and support their children
and the school. We definitely had the most vocal support! Thank you also to Mrs Watson
for all of her hard work in leading our school’s contribution to the event.
Snack Break
We have been asked for ideas for suitable snacks to pack in lunch boxes for break times.
Here are some ideas:
 Fruit (dried or fresh)
 Vegetables (carrot / cucumber / celery/ sticks, baby tomatoes)
 Cheese (cubed or in ‘cheese string’ varieties)
 Cereal bars
 Yogurt (tubes are easiest to manage)
We now have a number of children with nut allergies in school so please, no sweets or
nuts!
David Ross Visit:At the start of February we were pleased to welcome our Sponsor, David Ross, to the
school. This was the first time that David had visited us and it was a pleasure to take him
on a tour, meeting children and staff and sharing with him all of the good things that are
going on in school.
Parents and Carers Consultations:Thank you to all of the parents and carers who came along to our recent parent and
carer consultation sessions. We had a turn-out of 75% which is very pleasing to see.
Also, a big thank you to all those who took the time to complete our online questionnaire
which had 98 responses - an increase of 25 responses from last year. As a school, we are
always interested in your views on the quality of education that we provide for your child
or children and so the staff team will be looking at how we take the results further. Full
details will appear in the next newsletter.
If for any reason you were unable to meet with your child’s class teacher then please take
the opportunity to arrange a meeting at a convenient time. This can be done by either
speaking to your child’s class teacher at the end of the day or contacting the school
office.
Communication:We always try to keep up you up to date with what is happening in our school or any
changes to plans whenever possible. Recently there have been several situations where
parents were unaware of events happening in school despite our best efforts. Here are
some of the ways we can communicate with you:
Facebook:- Updates, changes, information etc. are always posted on our school
Facebook page which you can access by ‘liking’ Falconer’s Hill Academy.

Twitter:- For those of you who do not use Facebook but use Twitter instead, the
updates between the two sites are linked so that Facebook statuses appear in our
Twitter feed and vice versa. Find us @falconershill

Parent Mail:- We understand that some parents and carers do not use Facebook or
Twitter and so send most of our messages by Parent Mail as well. This is a free to join
service that allows us to send you a text message. Some examples of how we use
Parent Mail include letting you know that the newsletter is available or that a coach
might be late heading back from a trip. For this to work, it is vital that we have your
current mobile phone number – you can let us know of any changes via the school
office or emailing [email protected]

School Website:- Our school website contains links to letters to parents, information
about our school and can be found at www.falconershillacademy.co.uk
Reminder:A polite reminder that the side gates to the playground do not open until 8:35am.
Children are not able to come onto the school site until then.
What’s been happening in February:Year 3
“In Year 3 this term, we have been really busy thinking about food! We have been
learning about healthy eating, tasting lots of different types of bread, ready to design,
plan and evaluate our healthy sandwich. We have also been reading folk tales from
around the world and have written our own. In science, we are looking at plants. We
have planned an investigation to see how seeds grow and have even learnt about
photosynthesis!!
Eloise – Year 3
Year 4
“In Year Four we’ve been learning how to write an exciting persuasive leaflet about a city
in Italy. These cities were Rome (the capital city), Naples, Milan, Florence and
Venice. Once we finished the leaflet, our teacher sent it off to Thomas Cook. Miss
Sandhu sent it to Thomas Cook because they will hopefully publish them. In my favourite
subject maths, we’ve been converting fractions to decimals using the two new place
value columns called the ‘tenths’ and ‘hundredths’. Our science lessons have also been
interesting - we have been learning all about states of matter and temperatures that
objects melt at. The three states of matter are solids, liquids and gases. Did you know
molten lava is actually melted rock! I’ve really enjoyed learning about all of these things
they were interesting and enjoyable.”
Lyla – Year 4
Year 5
“This month in Year 5 we have been learning about Guru Nanak and how Sikhism began.
In maths we have been converting improper fractions to mixed numbers and we have
been practising how to multiply using the compact method and we have been doing lots
and lots of place value work. My favourite thing that I have learnt is how to do to the
compact method for long multiplication and now I feel confident with it”.
George – Year 5
Year 6
“In Year 6 this February we have focused mainly on the Mayans, the video to Titanium
and how our eyes allow us to see. We found out what the Mayans like to eat and do. We
wrote a story about the Titanium video – it was about a boy who has supernatural powers.
In Science, we found out interesting facts about the eye and how light bounces into our
eye after it hits an object”
Kenzie – Year 6
