This is a time to expand knowledge of Rotary and its activities among our membership and throughout the community. . Upcoming Events Last Thursday January 26, 2012 Cottonwood Grill February 15 No Meeting February 17 Hearts in Service Gala at Hillcrest Country Club Boise Southwest Rotary Grants and Programs Children’s Home Society of Idaho: Boise Southwest Rotary Foundation granted $1,500 to the Children’s Home Society for making greeting cards from the children’s art that is created during art therapy sessions The Children’s Home Society of Idaho is not affiliated with any national organizations. All financial support received, by the Society, stays local and allows services provided to be available to all children and the families who care for them. No one is ever turned away due to an inability to pay. Century Scholars honors the top 100 students from all the Boise High Schools. This year the dinner and program will take place on April 17th at Boise State University. Boise Southwest Rotary Foundation has supported this program with a $500 grant. This program, in it’s 6th year, was an original program of the Boise Downtown club and is now supported by most of the Boise Clubs. Green Belt Clean-up: The Club members voted to continue to support the Green Belt Clean-up program and our Club will continue to clean our section of the greenbelt that runs along the new River Recreation Park from Riverside Park, 1775 W. Shoreline Drive, west past Quinn's Pond to Pleasanton Avenue. MSTI Program: Our Club has supported MSTI patients during the Holiday season for years by buying and delivering presents and foods to families in need. This program has been great but patients are in need all year long. Greg, Vicki and others from the Board will be looking into other opportunities to help the patients during the year. Rotary Gala February 17th—Hillcrest Country Club The Gala in 2012 will be held at the Hillcrest Country Club and there is no charge for members and one guest to attend. Along with dinner there will be music and dancing and the presentation of the Rotarian of the Year Award and Bob Gibb Award. With the start of the Legislative season Sgt. Andrea has two kids and she is very active in Boy Scouts. June Harr represents Boise Rescue Mission which has 3 major areas of concern for ending homelessness one life at a time. Transitional Living; live in addiction rehab program.; overnight guest services for the homeless. The shelter offers three meals a day, a shower and a bed. They currently serve about 300 homeless with 45 of those being children. June has four children with one son graduating special forces in May and one son in Afghanistan.
