Book of Dreams
Before class, either buy a few small notebooks or make them
with your class (simply fold paper together and staple). Have
crayons, markers, glitter, glue and other materials on hand to
decorate the covers.
Proverbs 2:6
“For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come
knowledge and understanding...”
1. Have children put their name on their book along with the
title: “Book of Dreams” and draw a picture on the cover.
Tip: Show a sample book cover(s).
2. Ask children to draw inside their book a picture of the
thing that they like to do the most. Now ask children to
draw a picture of what they would like to do (their dream
job) when they grow up.
3. Have a time of sharing where children show their drawings
with each other.

Loving & Learning
Thank you God for the gift of learning. We pray that all
children in India and around the world have the chance
to go to school. Thank you for loving us and help us to learn
more about you and to become wise in your ways every day.
4. Close your session noting that God has given each person
skills and abilities and that going to school and doing other
activities (sports, music, art, etc.) helps us to discover and
practice our skills. All jobs in the world require learning
many things. But the most important knowledge of all is
learning about God.
Children can take their book home and use it to draw other
dreams they have – such as dreams at night; dreams for the
future, etc.

INTRODUCTION:
Can you imagine living far away from home in order to go to school? For some girls in India, it is necessary so that they have the
chance to go to school. Let’s listen to our story today and learn more.
Who can remember what they dreamed about last night? Sometimes we dream about nice things and sometimes our dreams can be
scary. Do you know that God sometimes speaks to people through their dreams? Let’s read a story in the Bible about a very important time
when this happened.
“
Hi, my name is Romita (that’s me on the cover!).
I am 7 years old. I live in a remote village in India
like this one where there are not many roads. We
have to walk a long way to get to a road and then
catch a ride on a motorbike, bus, truck or other
vehicle going to town. It takes a long time. There aren’t
any schools near my village, so I have to live in a hostel
in a town far away to go to school. I had never been
away from my family, but I soon made new friends. My
mom and dad never had the chance to go school. They
are very happy that I can go to school.

She Matters in India
As the second most populated country worldwide, India is
brimming with life and many people groups and cultures. The
Kui are one of the tribal groups who live in the mountainous
forest regions in Odisha State. Many families in this region
barely survive on subsistence agriculture and there is a high
level of malnutrition. The Kui people live in remote villages with
limited access to government services, schools and health care
facilities. Without schools nearby, it is difficult for children to
obtain an education and there is a high level of illiteracy in this
region. When children can attend school in far away towns, it
is most often the boys who are sent while girls remain behind
at home to help with younger siblings, household chores and
work in the fields. Tragically, they are often forced into early
marriages with no other options available.
CBM and their partner, Kui Baptist Association, strive to
address the high levels of illiteracy and malnutrition. One of
the projects was the building of a girl’s hostel so families have
a safe place to send their daughters to board and go to school
in town since their villages are so far away. Another project is a
nutrition program that gives families a nutritional supplement
to add to their infant’s food for a healthy start in life as well
as seeds and training to plant gardens for fresh fruit and
vegetables.
The new hostel officially opened this past July (2015) and
houses 60 girls from 6-13 years of age, providing them with
nutritious meals and better access to education. Tutors are onhand to aid the girls in homework and their studies. In addition
to this, the girls are taught good health and hygiene practices,
receiving regular medical check-ups and spiritual nurturing.

Read Matthew 2:1-15
God, creator of the whole world, is the wisest of all. He knows all things. He knows what is best for each one of us. In this Bible passage,
the wise men and Joseph relied on God’s wisdom that he shared through their dreams to do what was best. True wisdom is learning to
trust in God and learning to listen to him and follow his teachings. We can do this by reading the Bible, praying and coming to church
where we can learn more about him and how he wants us to live.
Romita’s Dream
CLOSING COMMENT:
The hostel was one of the projects supported by CBM’s
She Matters campaign to improve access to education for girls.
At least two-thirds of uneducated children in the world today are
girls. A similar percentage of illiterate adults are women. Learn
more at shematters.cbmin.org
*Give the gift of an education to more children in India and around
the world. See CBM’s new Hopeful Gifts for Change Gift Catalogue.
There are a lot of things to learn about in this world, but the most important thing to learn about is God and how much he cares
about each person. He wants all boys and girls to have a chance to learn about him and his love for all people and to grow up
healthy and wise. To develop the skills and abilities he has given them (to grow into their full, God-given potential).
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
1.
How do you go to school? Do you walk? Take a bus? Get a ride from your parents?
2.
Can you imagine having to live far away from home so that you could attend school? What are some of the things from
home that you would miss? What are some of the things that you would take with you?
3.
What do you like doing at school (or after school)? What do you want to be when you are older?
TIP: You may want to have this discussion as you create your Book of Dreams (see activity in this lesson)
crafts:
snack:
Snowflake Beaded Christmas Ornaments
Mango Apple
Smoothie
INGREDIENTS:
1 tsp of honey
2 apples (peeled and sliced)
300 mL yogurt
1 mango (peeled and sliced/or use canned puree)
DIRECTIONS:
1. Put all ingredients in a blender and blend until really smooth (20-30 seconds)
2. Refrigerate and serve chilled
Many handicrafts from India are made with small, colourful beads. These ornaments combine the use of these beautiful beads with
the celebration of Christmas, and will serve as a reminder of your group’s participation in Kids Care.
MATERIALS: Pony beads (in white, silver and blues), Pipe cleaners (in white, silver or blue) cut in half (3 per student)
DIRECTIONS:
1.
Provide each student with 3 pipe cleaners and instruct students to hold all 3 pipe cleaners together in a bundle and feed 1
pony bead till it reaches to the midway point.
2.
Spread the pipe cleaners apart, forming a six pointed snowflake (with the bead anchoring the centre).
3.
Students can now thread each pipe cleaner with beads in any colour pattern they would like. Finish each pipe cleaner by
bending the end back into the last threaded pony bead.
OPTION: Make She Matters friendship bracelets. Go to www.cbmin.org/kidscare to see an instructional video.
