Intermediate Football Sessions
Body Part Tennis
EQUIPMENT
A ball, a tennis net (helpful not necessary), cones to mark area
(if you can’t use mark lines)
NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS
Two or more
SPACE NEEDED
10x10 yards minimum
DESCRIPTION
Players are in two teams, trying to keep the ball in the air before sending it over
the net to the other team. Teams score points if the opposition can’t return the
ball (or hit it out)
Start with unlimited touches (per player and per team) and allow the ball to
bounce as long as it’s still airborne. As players become more proficient, begin
to limit these
Wait until players are comfortable before keeping score
COACHING POINTS
Encourage players to use a variety of body parts to control the ball
i.e. not just feet, but head / thigh / chest
If you have different abilities or disabilities please feel free to adapt the game
accordingly

Bench Ball
EQUIPMENT
A ball and cones
NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS
Minimum of 6 (3v3) Maximum 10 (5v5)
SPACE NEEDED
A 5-a-side pitch
DESCRIPTION
2 teams plus 2x target players in end zones
Teams have to get the ball to their teammate in the end zone
5 passes must be completed before the team in possession attempts to get
the ball to their end zone target player to score a goal. The game starts with
players using their hands to roll the ball around on the ground
COACHING POINTS
Set rules at the start and sets a scoring system
Make sure each team rotates the target player and wide players
Praise effort and intention
Start with players using their hands then challenge players to gradually
introduce playing with their feet

Mark Up
EQUIPMENT
A ball and cones
NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS
Minimum of 10 (5v5)
SPACE NEEDED
A 5-a-side pitch
DESCRIPTION
2 teams
Each player partners up with a player from the opposite team
Teams play normal 5-a-side rules
The idea is for everyone to stop their partner scoring
If a player’s partner scores then the opposition team must come up with a forfeit for that player
Play continues whilst the player performs the forfeit
COACHING POINTS
Set rules at the start and set partners
Make sure each team rotates positions
Encourage teamwork whilst the team is down to 4 players
Praise effort and intention
